Assuming the vaccines are as effective combating severe symptoms as reports suggest, is the Indian variation more lethal to younger age groups than the original strain?

Don’t know about lethality but the medical professionals being interviewed seem to be consistent in the view that young people are getting more ill and very quickly with this variant. You’d assume the mortality reflects that too but still proportionately less than in more vulnerable groups.

But the idea that we risk the young who haven’t been at risk until recently simply because us old farts are vaccinated is both predictable and disappointing.
    Not at all.
Surely the best course of action in the first instance is to place hot spots, such as Bolton into a Leicester-like lockdown, rather than curb the lifting of restrictions, country-wide?
In fact I would go as far as to say that here, our rates of infection are so low, it would be difficult to justify.

Would you include travel restrictions from those areas?

If you just let people in and out socialise indoors etc, you may almost as well not bother.

I downloaded the NHS app on Thursday, as that's where the vaccine confirmation will be, should I need it to go to France... you have to prove your identity with a photo of your passport and a video of you saying a security number... it said it'd take at least a week for the submissions to be checked, but all done in two days. And yes, my vaccine record is there, as promised.

    Clever, but 500 years out.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I downloaded it and didn't need to do any of that.

Maybe it's because they already had my mobile number for video consults, but I just needed to confirm with codes sent to my phone.

I downloaded the app this morning, and verifying my photo took 4 minutes. Was really impressed tbf.

Macron is making a big deal of the fact that 20 million people in France have received a first dose of vaccine.

Didn't he previously go on about fully vaccinated people only?

Under new rules for weddings, dancing is no longer forbidden, but dance floors and "other spaces for dancing" must remain closed. Pick the bones out of that.

Dancing on the ceiling is still allowed.

The main NHS app - Hancock specifically said that vaccination evidence would be by this one, not the covid one. Must admit being a little wary of uploading a photo of my passport via the ether to goodness knows where, having already given DOB and inside leg measurement, but obviously they need to make sure that it's you accessing all your health info.

I have used the main NHS app for many months now, GP surgery advised to get it for ordering repeat prescriptions (bad eye treatments) and works well. Put it on iPad with all of the (sensible) validation steps. Few weeks ago put it on phone in prep for the covid passport, simple install on that second device without the photo scan etc.

Just put the NHS app on, had to verify with email and text. Very simple. Shows both my jabs and history going back to the early noughties.

Yeah, I was impressed with the history of prescriptions etc (not that I have had many)

The Indian Variant, opening soon in Cambridge : It’s a catchy name for a restaurant chain.

    Beware.
My nephews experience of it has been a bit of a disaster.
No record his 10 day old test results, told him he’d have to do extra quarantine.
Then during yet another phone call where the guy admitted they so stretched they couldn’t cope, his missing test result appeared on his phone.
    Negative of course

That's not the app at fault. If the UK only spends £22bn and counting on a world beating test and trace system, we can't expect the data to be up to date. Innit.

In Alabama, as an incentive to get people to get jabbed, you can get your vaccine at Talladega Superspeedway, then you get to drive two laps of the track at 80mph in your own car.

Not many. At 80 mph, it will be less exciting than the Edinburgh bypass.

Silver lining would be if they go and vaccinate all the adults in one go...

Bolton councillor was tweeting today to just turn up. They had 4,000 doses to be used that day.

Whilst so much was done badly and so many decisions have been questionable, I think the throw everything at it approach we now have is definitely capable of delivering impressive results.

Thanks to a heads-up from a friend, I just cancelled my 2nd jab on 9 June and rebooked for tomorrow at the same centre, a nice 6 mile ride from home. Mind you, it might be piddling down, given the forecast...

Out of curiosity, why did you do that, given that the clinical evidence for the
COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine shows better efficacy following a 12-week gap?

I'm working in a school, and so would prefer to be fully covered with both doses earlier rather than later... it'll still be a nine-week gap.

It is curious that days ago the Govt was singing this song yet now they are sending text messages telling people to cancel their 12 week appointment and get it done ASAP

If they had a history of competence I would be terrified at what they are seeing that has caused them to sh1t themselves so badly.
