Gcn racepass has been rebranded as gcn plus.
Currently offering 50% off, but I don’t think it’ ever reached full price.

It was a decent finish as well.

Nice to see some sun and rugged coastline although the number of members of the public on the course in cars was a worry.

Watched on catch up. Sunshine! Back in the day when I was a cog in the corporate machine, a Parisian colleague left to move to a job in the south of France. He wound me up by regaling the fact that he had 330 days of sunshine per annum. Connard.

I’ve got the Eurosport app, is it with having this as well, any additional content/race coverage?

GCN Plus says it will have various documentaries etc.. I don't know whether they would feature on Eurosport.
  • It looks like the Amazon Fire Stick capability that has been long promised will be in this update / new version.

Yes I’m going to get the fire stick I think. Someone said it was better than chrome cast?

The Eurosport player has a great picture with the firestick.
As do most players to be fair.
I'd keep an eye out for an offer, as Amazon regularly cut their prices.

It's a good bit of kit. I would just be wary that since GCN Racepass launched they have been promising a Fire app, but as yet nothing.

I’ve bought a fire stick. GCN replies to a comment of mine on Facebook as I was asking about GCN on fire stick and they said in a few weeks whether that happens or not.
  • Eurosport picture is very good with firestick, pleased with that purchase. Roll on the racing

All apps I use are great through Google Chromecast. I've never used a fire stick, so can't compare, but Chromecast does everything I want it to and is spot on for eurosport player.

I almost bought a chromecast but bought a firestick in the end off some advice (I’m sure both are similar). Main thing is I can now watch on “big telly” and not ipad 👍
  • Here's the GCN race schedule for 2021.
I assume the Eurosport player will have exactly the same, but not sure since the Aussie nationals isn't available, as advertised.

Some noticeable gaps there. Omloop, Gent Wevelgem, Scheldeprjis. Amstel Gold too (has that been postponed already?).

Dan Lloyd said something today that they hoped to bring Omloop suggesting no deal yet. Maybe he meant the race might not happen.
  • Lloyd replied to a tweet from me yesterday saying GCN still working on a firestick app for those who have one of those. Not date for completion. Not sure whether that applies to chromecast too

    GCN+ is live... https://plus.globalcyclingnetwork.com/browse

A lot of GCN Originals which is...fine. Along way to go to become Cycling Netflix, but let's see how it goes.

Chromecast can cast from pretty much any video app. If there's an Android app for gcn it'll be Chromecast enabled

Dan Lloyd has now confirmed that GCN NOT expected to carry Omloop (and by extension the other races I mention as I presume that they sold as a package by Flanders Classics). I suspect this means not on Eurosport either. I wonder if someone else will pick up or is everybody going to be looking for iffy streams.

If eurosport don't have it who else in the UK would? Red Bull TV?

Even though I subscribe to Eurosport through Sky I still think GCN+ is pretty good value at £19.99 for the year.

The cycling documentaries look decent plus you also get some smaller road races Eurosport don't show without adverts & Cross races as well.

If neither GCN or Eurosport have coverage then it kind of flies in the UCI's face, with regard to their initiative that to qualify, World Tour races must have international coverage.
I don't think Sporza fulfills that criteria.

  • Omloop wasn't on ES a few years back but sure it has been for the last couple at least. No idea why as an organiser you wouldn't want to get the coverage, even if you have to sell it cheap / give it away.
  • Last year's broadcasters. (ignore the US times)

    Broadcast TV info:

    Men's race:

Fubo TV at 14:00 CET, 8:00am ET (7:00am)

Sporza TV (een) at 13:30 CET, 7:30am ET (6:30am)

Rtbf la une at 14:00 CET, 8:00am ET (7:00am)

Sky Sport at 14:00 CET, 8:00am ET (7:00am)

    SuperSport at 14:00 CET, 8:00am ET (7:00am)

    Eurosport 2 at 14:00 CET, 8:00am ET (7:00am)

L'Equipe - too soon to know

NOS - too soon to know

Could end up being L'Equipe then.....

    This is getting confusing!

The extra stuff on GCN sounds nice but I have kids and bikes that need riding so I don’t have much time for the docs etc and really just want to watch all the racing.

At the moment I’ve got GCN as I assumed they’d show all the cycling content that Eurosport did. However if Eurosport are showing Omloop in the UK and GCN aren’t then it sounds like I need to go back to Eurosport after all.

Unfortunately, they got Omloop and the UAE tour mixed up.

Thanks. This makes some sense of the nonsense!

So, I’m either watching the UAE Tour or getting involved with VPNs etc
  • A quick check of that GCN race schedule above and things become a little clearer. Only one of the races owned by the Flander classics lot appears in their list.
Fortunately, the Ronde van Vlaanderen is still covered, but the following races are missing.

    Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
    Gent-Wevelgem - In Flanders Fields
    Dwars Door Vlaanderen
    Scheldeprijs
    De Brabantse Pijl.

So as yorkshireraw mentions above, it's returning to as it was a few years back, with a large hole in the Eurosport cycling portfolio.

Doesn't make sense unless they've seen the rate of GCN+ subscribers going up and have asked for a big chunk of cash.
