FC after more money - well call me shocked.....

It's been said before, but there's too many rights holders/ race organisers. It's 2021, UCI need to put out a tender to ONE body who deal with the World Tour and WT TV rights. There are no separate deals for certain races...just one deal for the WT.
MotoGP/F1, etc are sold as a package....with one promoter for each series.

However, this is cycling, so it won't happen.

Just so I'm clear also, there is still no difference between GCN+ and ES coverage?

This is something to do with FC...

IIRC GCN+ don't have the highlights shows - if that bothers you, ie they only seem to show the full stage - or that used to be the case at least.

In some opinions that's what has destroyed F1

Digging around, it seems that the rights for the whole FC race list are up for grabs for the next 8 year period. They appear to have asked for a significant bump, ES and GCN (plus others) have so far said no.

So who's going to blink. You'd have to think this has hit the UCI, lead sponsors and neutral service providers like Shimano.

Just stumbled upon a twitter exchange whereby Eurosport Support did appear to confirm this, last Friday.
In other words, nothing is cast in stone just yet, as the rights are still in negotiation.

Hard to believe that the Flanderclassics races were once all shown on the free and now defunct Bike Channel.

Of course the real big downside should there be no resolution is that GCN/Eurosport, contrary to claims, would indeed also be unable to show the Ronde.

    That would be huge.

  • Dan Lloyd confirm OHN will be on GCN and ES on Saturday. Sounds like they've had to fork out for the rights

GCN/ES would have been able to show RVV. This year.

Dont entirely understand the slavish adherence to Flanders Classics bad GCN/ES good posts either. Who knows who was offering what.

ANYWAY- GOOD NEWS- it looks like it's sorted as OHN now on ES schedule- mens and womens. It will turn up on GCN at some point

    Jolly good.
The Giro route is just being announced on Italian tv, too.
So a good day for we viewers, if we exclude the snore-fest that was today's UAE stage.

    Well this is good news.

Do we know if it’s a last minute agreement for OHN or if an agreement has been reached for all the Flanders Classics?

Just in from work. So FF on the catch up for today's stage then? Unless I want to watch lots of aerial shots of endless multilane highways?

OHN showing in the GCN App but not showing on ES on my Sky planner.

Might just be on Eurosport Player rather than regular ES.

Eurosport 1 schedule can easily be changed to accommodate OHN coverage as it's currently old races.
It's already appeared on German Eurosport 2 on tv.
I expect the Sky epg to update in the next day or so.

It’s showing on my ES player from 1300 to 1535 followed by the women’s at 1537. It wasn’t there this morning.

  • Brilliant, thought I was going to have revive my cyclingtorrents.nl account. Almost miss that though, spending all afternoon waiting for the torrent to appear, then downloading it, then a couple of hours later maybe by 9 watching the last 70k with dutch commentary. Gave it a real air of mystique

It appears I was mistaken and it’s just for OHN 2021. So the 8 year contract not yet agreed and all the other FC races (except RVV 2021) are still Not yet agreed. But it’s a few weeks until the next one (Gent Wevelgem next at end of march?)

This does suggest no other players involved and an element of goodwill.

Is it just me or are the replays of the UAE Tour really slow to appear on the GCN+ App?

Yesterdays stage has only just become available now.

Yeah they said they were having technical issues so it took longer than usual to be uploaded.

On a separate note Carlton Kirby was plugging that ES now have the OHN rights & it's appeared in my Sky planner (both mens & womens races) so happy days.

Still unsure whether to keep GCN and ES, will see how it pans out over the year.

I already had ES but thought I’d take advantage of GCN £20 offer for the year to see what it’s like. End of the year I’ll decide which one to keep for next year

    Same here.

Had Sky for years so always had access to ES but for £20 I though GCN+ was worth a punt.

I like watching documentaries anyway so cycling ones will always be of interest & the extra race stuff is just a bonus on top.

So far I think GCN+ is pretty good value even if it was full price.

Hurrah, thanks for confirming this - this is probably the deal breaker for me and means I'll not rely on accessing Tiz cycling for live race coverage, hoping that the feed doesn't drop as the race winning attack goes.

Does GCN go live earlier in stages and have a bit more pre and post stage discussion?

I think they do on the Grand Tours certainly but going off the timings on the app for OHN this weekend they are on air longer than ES so I guess they are showing more of the race. More coverage of the womens race as well.

Last year "The Breakaway" was only available online.

I’m sure the women’s edition of OHN was on my Sky planner but seems to have disappeared.

Still on the GCN app though.

Eurosport must have realised that being gender specific is not acceptable these days.
So they have chosen to confuse everyone by putting both races into the same broadcast slot.
    4-30pm finish is the clue.

According to the GCN app men’s race is on 1240-1700 & women's 1440-1640?!?!?
