sky had a tactically muddled race.

If Rosetto stays away, where will it rank in all time great rides?

Has he been helped along the way by poor tactics or has he done it a la pedale?

My take on it is that if enough teams in the peloton had wanted to catch him they could have - he was really struggling by the end - but it suited BMC to not go totally nuts once they'd distanced MCN, and it didn't suit them to work earlier (Astana were pretty much left alone to pull). The tactical situation favoured Rossetto for sure, but the way he rode in the lead up to Park Rash and during the climb itself is what gave him the cushion to take the win, so it was earned rather than given.

Laporte been riding well so far. Follow ed Rossetto for a while as he is a break specialist. Too be fair it's not always paid off in the tour but he got his day today. How cool was he after the finish !!

Great ride by Rossetto ... really pleased that he made it to the end.
    Great stage and overall race.

the status of the race limits the fame of that ride. but frankly holding on over all that is pretty amazing. insane break. I hope he pulls off a few heroic breaks in the tour/Vuelta.

better than Roscioli in pedalling craft for all time mad breaks.

    +1

yeah that effort he put out mid-race up Park Rash was decisive and very risky so far from home.

it was smart because the following teams would slow down to keep there bigger guys in contact sort of doubling the effect of making the gap bigger by just pedalling harder on other terrains.

he speeded up while they deliberately slowed down for those 2km!

Well done! Park Rash especially has the look of a surveyor who just wanted to get home quickly.

I'm in the dales from Friday for a long weekend cycling. £300 for a cottage in Hawes for 3 nights for 5 males.

There is so much potentially wrong with that last sentence.

Phil will like this, when he gets home from the race.

Epic solo for sure: a real one off. No other race quite like it.
I thought that the grovelling was more intense last year, though.
BMC way too strong for the rest, so the race needs to go to HC, tout suite.

In some ways I wonder if today's stage wasn't a little overloaded. It was so obviously signposted as a killer that everyone raced - a little - within themselves. Then I remember that Astana were done over within about five seconds and realise that thought's probably wrong...

Meanwhile, looks like Astana owe someone a stiff drink or three:

Just saw that, pretty bad but good skillz from the marshall.

Whoever was driving that should be banned for a long time. There's no excuse.
