Was thinking about this - is a car as part of the race convoy, so part of the closed road contingent, still subject to RTA laws? Or are they suspended whilst in a closed road environment? They dont stop at traffic lights etc, so I guess they can be on phones etc whilst driving?
I thought from race manuals Id read in previous years the expectation was drivers in the race convoys were still to respect the rules,if not the actual laws, of the road and certainly drivers for world tour level events are expected to have UCI drivers certificates, as well as a valid driving license.
but the roads in UK races are not closed environments, the riders are just effectively in a bubble of a moving road block, and obviously theres a degree of acceptance from the police that the convoy can ignore some of those rules to aid the smoother running of the race, as long as its not putting people at risk, which is where I think this crossed the line0 -

Whoever was driving that should be banned for a long time. There's no excuse.

Read this almost immediately after waking up from a nap and thought "of course it's starting in Yorkshire, the route was announced on Friday"
Come to my senses slightly now, yes hopefully some more top level riding on our doorstep this year, would make sense with the worlds0
