    Ditto

    Quite the opposite.
The thread must remain open so that Bungle can come back and inform us of the outcome. After all it is only fair to Merlin to keep the thread open until Bungle comes back to tell everyone how Merlin rectified his c0ck ups.

A bit of fun and teasing is one thing, but this is bullying. Unnecessary and becoming unpleasant. Mob behaviour, pitchfork, Piggy and Lord of the Flies. Bungle needs support and advice, not destroying.

Nonsense. He screwed up an order he had placed with a very well respected bike shop then comes on a public forum launching an attack on the shop (without giving them a chance to rectify the issue, caused by his incompetence) and anyone who took the time to try to offer advice.

Bike shops have enough difficulty in surviving as it is without unfair, biased, derogatory remarks by a customer without cause.

What you say is true but how is public bullying and humiliation going to help anyone? Do you think that Bungle will wake up and say, “guys, you were right all along, I’ve made a fool of myself. I‘ll phone Merlin on Monday, I’m sure this can easily be sorted.” Me neither.
You are treating this as sport, humiliation for pleasure, and I think you should stop.

There might have been a few jokes made at bungle expense but in all honesty what did he expect??
At the end of the day he made what could be considered libellous comments regarding a bike shop and personal attacks on those who tried to offer advice. He deserves what he gets.

Bungle did go fullgas on the offensive from page 1. Maybe he/she, probably he will come back on here with an update, but somehow I doubt it.

Ask Bungle. He's been equally guilty of that on this thread.

It's difficult to feel any sympathy as he brought this entirely on himself. If he had used his real name and was getting annihilated and then faced some sort of public humiliation or loss of reputation as a result then perhaps your point might hold true, but like most of us on here he's anonymous. He also has a choice whether to subject himself to any further p1ss taking either by admitting his fault or simply not returning to the forum.
  • It’s also not as if this is a new thing. He has previous form for this kind of behaviour across multiple forums.

He did go off on one. This is a problem entirely of his own creation. I don't think we should let people off if they're being silly and offensive.

I'm not cutting Trump any slack either.

I do a lot of the technical maintenance for our online shop - a mainstream ecommerce system - seems to be the same as Merlin Cycles use - one of the tricky bits is the payment gateway - configuration of these was outsourced!

Like Merlin - we use 2.
    Paypal & Sagepay
Paypal can have 3 different payment actions - Authorisation, Sale or Order. If we set it to Authorisation, we don't get any money until a member of staff goes in and claims the money - or (I believe) the order is "Invoiced" in our online shop.
We don't do that - the online shop is there purely for order taking - the orders flow into our back office system. Paypal is set to "Sale" - ie money is "taken" straight away.
From a quick reccy - Sagepay doesn't have that option - payment is "taken" straight away.
By the time the clearing house has cleared it, batched it and sent it to us we don't actually get the money until a week or more later.

Bungle doesn't mention which payment gateway he used - the paypal gateway allows the customer to pay by debit/credit card or use a pre-registered account. They use Sagepay as their second payment gateway - so they'll have similar configuration constraints as we have.

We have no issues with a customer changing their mind - they can cancel at any point - although it's easier if they do this before we've packed & shipped the order. We haven't got an online method of cancelling the order though - the customer must contact our customer services - phone, email - doesn't matter which.

We're not here 24/7 - our website (like Merlin's) is clear with our opening times - and we, like Merlin are quick to respond to customers queries/change requests - why wouldn't we be - if customers don't get a good experience then they won't shop again.

Oh - I'm a repeat Merlin Cycles customer too...

It'd be nice if he comes back to let us know all is well with his orders/cancellations/refunds.

That's really the least he can do.

I think he's still on the line to Merlin - they haven't stopped laughing since they picked up the 'phone at 8:33 and realised it was him.

Perhaps he has been too busy to come back to update the thread, telling us how he has schooled Merlin on customer service.
Or he could have spent the day pondering what to do with a box.

I’m nearly out of popcorn....bungle, BUNGLE....is that you hiding in the corner?

Come on bungle, I’m in suspense, please, please tell me that your local plod took your allegation of theft extremely seriously and are currently carrying out a raid on the premises of those villains in an attempt to track down BOTH of your £2.95 (un)authorised payments....

Or has your incompetence been sorted out by the good people at Merlin?

My money is on the latter.

I ordered a humble gear set from Merlin about a year back, and after noticing my incompetence in ordering the incorrect length of gear cage, I contacted them the next morning to swap it over. Absolutely no issues at all, plus they refunded £3 to my account for the price difference, £3 I assumed I had lost due to my incompetence which I was not overly worried about. They are a great company to shop with.
I'm afraid Bungle, you do what we all do at times, lash out externally due to our own mistakes when really we are just angry with ourselves

I suspect we will never hear the outcome, can’t say I’m surprised as coming on here and saying it’s all fine and they were as good as gold may make someone look like a bit of a drama queen.

I think we should email Merlin and ask them for the result stating that the internet needs to know :) and link to this thread
  • I logged back in to see the resolution of the Bungles bungled orders saga ... please, give us an update. Most of us have had nothing but top level service from Merlin Cycles and it would be a shame for them to be bad mouthed on the internet when they've done nothing wrong. Morally you can't leave it at "they've stolen my money" when they've done nothing of the sort.

Oh wait, maybe he thought he could get a better deal from his broadband provider by doing the cancellation ruse, and was surprised when they cut off his service ... and he's waiting for them to reconnect him ?
