Voided transactions
Only banks have the ability to remove preauthorizations from the card holder's card. Thus, a merchant may void a transaction, but the hold will remain on the account.[2]
Rarely, banks will remove authorization holds with a verbal (or, for larger amounts, written) request from the authorizing merchant. Such requests usually require information such as the cardholder's name, card number, authorization number and transaction amount. Since most banks cannot verify that the letter from the merchant is someone who has authority to ensure that the charge will not settle, they require the hold to remain according to their bank policies.
Preauthorizations aren't cancelled, refunds are given. Seperate thing.
Do you actually understand the difference between a pre-authorisation hold, and the money actually being taken from the account and appearing on a statement? You don't do you............
You really are a moron. I'm out.
You're a liar. I just proved to you how it works. I've had enough pre-authorisations that didn't finally appear on my statement. And why didn't they appear? because the transaction was not proceeded with. You're a time waster.0 -

I've done NOTHING wrong, so kindly get the f off your high horse.
Maybe not but you should have at least had the good sense to ask Merlin what they ve done and given them a chance to put right any perceived wrong doing to your satisfaction.
You paid by CC, so you dont need to settle your acc for at least 4weeks, giving the retailer plenty of time to credit your account at no loss to you.0 -
I've discovered that certain members of this forum have a stinky attitude problem. They're always seeking to find fault with people, even when it is abundantly clear that the fault is not theirs. A retailer made an unauthorised debit from my account, it's as simple as that, yet apparently it's my fault........dl80 wrote:So you mess them about changing orders but it's their fault for working the hours they state clearly on the website?

Not at all, just make the odd purchase from them.I actually had to change my last order (my mistake) and phoned them during office hours which they resolved straight away.
I would get back to your village lad, it will be missing you.Bungle73 wrote:I've discovered that certain members of this forum have a stinky attitude problem. Good post, Bungle buy name, Bungle by natureI'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
Excellent tantrum there Bungle.
You authorised the orders - all three of them. That's why the money was taken. It's your fault - not them.
And as to them finishing at 430 - so what ? They advertise it as such. Again your fault for ringing after they've closed.
You know when everyone else points out that you're wrong ?
Maybe - just maybe you are.
(hint - you are)0 -
So none of you have ever cancelled an online order? Of course you have, so I suggest you stfu.0

Er I haven't done anything remotely close to throwing a "tantrum". And which part of CANCALLED do you not understand. I've already laid out exactly how it works, and I've done enough CC transactions to know how it works, so why you people persists with posting this nonsense I have no idea.
And why shouldn't I be a bit miffed they clock off much earlier than every other business when I have a problem (OF THEIR MAKING), that I want them to sort out? And hot is that my "fault" exactly?0 -

Lets look at this bit -Bungle73 wrote:The money is only taken when the retailer decides to proceed with the transaction, and in most cases the debit of the money is done during the dispatch process..
Lets say that this bit is true. It probably isn't - I think most online places take the cash as they pass the order onto the warehouse. Why wouldn't you ? Any business wants the cash asap. From little to multinationals - you need the cash flow.
But you say MOST cases the debit of the money is done during the "dispatch" process.
So even you admit that SOME cases it will be taken earlier. So why are you so upset ?0 -
Bungle have you considered being a little more organised with your purchases and potentially financial management if you are so incompetent at online shopping?
I messed up an order at Merlin and they told me how to resolve it. Super helpful people so probably for the best that muppets such as yourself don't waste their time. It'll be a gift to them that you don't shop there again.0 -
Bungle73 wrote:So none of you have ever cancelled an online order? Of course you have, so I suggest you stfu.
You need to calm down a bit.
yeah i have, i see a debit of £xxx.xx and then a credit of £xxx.xx shortly afterwards, my monthly bill then reflects this... anyone would think Merlin told you to xxxx off and they wont refund you..... which is likely if they ever read your polemic against them.0 -
Nothing but good service from Merlin here, in fact I have switched to them after wiggle/CRC sodding around with mickey mouse couriers.
I think you're getting a lot of flack becuase the title of your thread sounds like they haven't resolved something after several weeks. It's a little over the top IMHO.

Completely agree Veronese, after 46 years in the retail sector I have had my fill of customers who in most cases "know the industry better than you" despite the fact they have never worked in it.0
