I assume that for today's PTP a lot of people have just seen "time trial = Tony Martin" without looking at the final climb?
He's a decent climber when he needs to be. I know it's a long time ago, but he almost won a Tour stage up Ventoux.

The same Tony Martin who's Paris-Nice win was based on winning on a similar uphill time trial?
This is true, but i think it's a bit harder today and the course is a lot shorter (less flat?).

In a break that was soemthing like 20 mins off the front? Against Juan Manuel Gárate?

Sure. But he was still the second best climber in that break. He's not Bert Grabsch.

Yeah alright and I'm second toughest in the infants.

He's a tier 3 climber when he wants to be.

And that may be enough for today

I saw 14 km time trial and dismissed him on that basis.

And who's currently sitting in 7th at +29s... Yeah that one.

I picked him and I'll confess the climb looked quite a bit smaller on the profile and I didn't look carefully enough

Oh, I didn't get as far as looking at the actual climb. Just a quick glance at the whole stage.

Contador in the hot seat... A second chance for my PTP?

Bladdy hell Porte - my PTP sucks again
Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.

Gorka Izaguirre one second shy of Contador - might be in Yellow - Alaphillipe could be about to unseat Contador, as he was 6s inside Izaguirre at the first time check.

I'm not usually supporting Contador, but since there's valuable PTP points at stake...

Gallopin just came in less than a second down on Contador.

So we're agreed Tony Martin's not a good shout for this stage?

    Impressed by Alaphilippe...

Glad Contador delivered as my PTP pick. Shame stage wins get you only a few points...

I picked the wrong Izaguirre. Easy mistake.

Presumably he doesn't have to drink it before the next stage. Nice little extra though

    1(2)ALAPHILIPPE Julian Quick-Step Floors 12:36:27
    2(5)GALLOPIN Tony Lotto Soudal 0:33
    3(11)IZAGIRRE Gorka Movistar Team 0:47
4(7)HENAO Sergio Luis Team Sky 1:05
    5(9)MARTIN Daniel Quick-Step Floors 1:20
    6(4)GILBERT Philippe Quick-Step Floors 1:24
    7(14)ZAKARIN IlnurTeam Katusha - Alpecin 1:28
    8(21)CONTADOR Alberto Trek - Segafredo 1:31

So, 6 out of the top 8 with a genuine chance of winning this?

If the top 5 is tight after Saturday then stage 8 could be a brilliantly attacking day.

Which two of those eight are you discounting? I'd be surprised if Gilbert did well on the Couillolle, but the rest are all in with a chance.
