Loved Bilic trying to put Wright in his place. We've become so possession obsessed over the last few tournaments that last night "shows" how far we've come - only we played against a team that had no interest in the ball.

The attack is supposed to be our strength too...

Also, how can the man in the street know football better than a man paid millions a year to manage them? Drop our 3 best players, Kane taking corners, Wilshere and Henderson clearly not match fit and Sterling out of form yet leaves Townsend and Drinkwater at home. Sturridge should only ever play through the middle whereas Vardy in this team is better suited out wide.

1 win from 6 tournament games now and most that's Roy's been credited with has been forced upon him.

If we had two great goalkeepers, we wouldn't try and play one of them at left back and see how it went.

I'm not saying he's better out wide. In this team and formation when playing against opposition camped in their own half I think Sturridge is the man you want in the 6 yard box and Vardy dropping deeper/out wide.

But then again, I'd have picked wingers for that, like Townsend who was in good form at the end of the season and isn't knackered from a full season.

The worrying thing is: against the better teams things should be more open going forward, but if we concede early then we have no chance. The warning signs were there in the friendly against Portugal.

And it would shut the bloody stupid ITV Englo-obsessed commentary up as well.
Which country do you reckon ITV should be obsessed with?

  • Well that was painful to watch last night, if we can scrape past whoever we get from Portugals group it looks like France in the quaters.

well it would have been nice to watch the Welsh match rather than having the England game on two ITV channels simultaneously

And for I T V to constantly go on and on and on and on about bloody England no matter what game is on.

I remember at the last WC after England had been knocked out I was watching someone random - let's say Germany vs France for example. I wanted to watch G vs F and listen about that game, not suffer discussion about England and what their plans should be and all that jazz.

Tyldsley is the worst - his "justice for the England 11" comment should have got him a public kicking.

We're watching Wales vs Russia - we don't care about England. If we did we'd be watching the England game.

BBC don't do it, but ITV seem freakin' obsessed by them.

Don't worry - I'll let you cheer on the mighty Azzurri and then you can see style, panache, class and the winning way.

Horrendous prospect, 90 mins of acting and constant free kicks. Hope they get Clattenburg to officiate as he seems wise to it.

Also, look at our half of the draw with the teams in it and compare to the Welsh half. Not winning that group was a proper balls up.

Gutted its Italy vs Spain - not just the fact that Italy will go out but it means that one of the few teams who bring some glamour to the tournament will go out leaving dullard freakin' Engggggeeerrrland in.

Just to be pedantic. Should the RoI beat Italy and Belgium stuff Sweden, would Belgium not top the group?
Or is it head to head?

Italy are already pencilled in as group winners in that link so I guess it was head to head.

Republic of Ireland must have been disappointed to only beat that bunch of losers 1-0 :)

It means we can take some slight satisfaction in reaching the quarter finals(?) of an international competition followed by the 'oh well' and usual debate about why we aren't producing world class footballers... we'll never win unless... we ought to do this and that and this...' and then start looking forward to the next round of international mediocrity having done nothing about the shortfalls that we keep talking about but doing nothing about and then take some slight satisfaction in reaching the quarter finals of an international competition followed by...

I doubt Ireland cared much. Cracking goal either way.

Only just looked at the highlights. Now I've seen more than enough sport to know refs make mistakes but how on earth was no penalty awarded in the first half to the Irish? About 40 secs into the video.

I just can't see how the referee thinks otherwise, it's astonishing. Plus if he thought it was dive he should have booked the player so clearly he just slopey shouldered his way out of it.

To give the Irish their dues, it was a cracking goal and well recieved after their guy missed a sitter.
