Yep. Slovakia beat England and Wales beat Russia.
But that would leave England on 4 pts and v likely to progress as one of the 4 best 3rd placed teams. Acc to the back of my envelope any other permutation sees England through in 1st or 2nd place, unless Slovakia beat England & Russia draw v Wales. That leaves Eng & Rus both on 4 pts in 2nd & 3rd places having drawn their game, so it would come down to how many Eng lose by on Monday.

Word is that the subs were at G Neville's suggestion / insistence and that Hodgson wanted to sit it out till the hour. It doesn't bode well for the next game, and then the one knockout game that we'll get if that's true.
    Likely, but not guaranteed.
Wales and Slovakia win, England 3rd place with 4 points. Maybe enough, maybe not.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Woy looked like he had given up in the second half, sat head bowed in the dugout. Looked like a huge weight had been lifted celebrating the 2nd goal.

@PB ^^ probably. Having reappraised my envelope I'm not so sure now anyway. Best way is avoid defeat and it's a done deal.

Roy - Kane (right), Sturridge (left), Vardy (middle) up front.
Wooney, Wilshere, Walker in the middle.
    4-3-3.

    Someone text Neville please.

So who are you leaving out? Yes a draw would be a good result but when England sit back they're awful. I'm tired of watching England go out with a whimper. The best form of defence is attack and I wouldn't mess much with the 11 that finished against Wales.

I know Sturridge scored, but I thought he was poor last night. Playing a role he's unaccustomed to mind. If he plays it's got to be through the middle, not out wide dropping deep.

    4-3-3 is an attacking formation.

Hasn't anyone noticed that when England has a lone striker i.e: 4-2-3-1, the 'lone' striker struggles?

Me know that, sitting back was just a general observation. So who are you leaving out? Or are we going for the 4-5-5 formation?

If England get a point they're through.

If England lose the only result that guarantees them going through is Wales draw with Russia. A Wales & Slovakia win puts England 3rd on 4 pts; a Wales loss puts England either 2nd or 3rd depending on how many Slovakia put past Hart.

But... that's all negated by Albania & Ukraine both now being on zero points after two games anyway so neither can catch England's 4 pts, which means England are definitely through to the knockout regardless of Monday's 2 games by dint of being one of the 4 best 3rd place teams. Sorted.

    Anyway. Vardy has to start.

Who's suggesting England 'sitting back'? Woy selected 5 strikers for the squad which is in itself telling.

I don't understand this. All 6 groups could still have a 3rd place team on 4 points with goal difference deciding it.
Anyway, yes, a point at least and it is all done and dusted.

You're right. I was subtracting teams who can't, and mixed up. Good spot.

I hope Woy takes the opportunity to top the group. How long has it been since we topped a group in an international competition?
A good all out hell for leather thrashing of Slovakia would do a world of good and send out a message. It will probably end up in a boring draw, Mike Bassett style.

Just maybe he might consider playing the best striker in the country now he's proved himself worthy.

But Woy needs to fit in Wheelchair, Milner and poster boy Sterling, and have Kane taking the corners... :?

Is it considered cool or witty to take the pee out of his soft R by calling him Woy then? Thought we were above that tbh.

Rip him to shreds for his team selection & tactical nous by all means, but calling him Woy is a bit much. And not remotely funny or witty.

To be fair, given how England have been playing over the past couple of years I think we need to cut Roy some slack and trust his decision making.

Ah lighten up, is some harmless banter, a gentle taking of the P. Or are you offended by the common use of Woy, see threads passim?

I have seen no abusive wording on this forum, unlike the wider wunnerful world of t'interweb. Have a trawl in the lower reaches of the internet, if you really want to...

All things considered, Roy is doing a good job. Supplanting the R is hardly malevolent.

This is BB. Have fun without being offensive, don't be offended. Please don't get all PC.

Suit yourselves. I've no problem with well-aimed barbs & gratuitous offensiveness, but Woy is just a cheap jibe, and not the slightest bit witty, humourous or relevant.

And, ladies and gents, that is why the mighty Azzurri will win.
