If you're going frameset there you are. How much better? Any better? Probably.
Unless you're going full build in which case harder to get a bargain. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Yes, this was what prompted my question. You can buy a complete bike for the same price so is the Hi Mod really that significantly better? Or would it be wiser to buy a complete bike and then use the money i would need for groupset to buy a decent set of wheels?0 -

Very hard to answer, it's lighter, of course. Someone will be along shortly who's had both, I hope! The Evo is fantastic though. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Depends on your budget, depends on the groupset you want or preferred manufacturer, depends if you'd be happy with the finshing kit.
A grand is still a lot for a frameset (and they did sell them in 54 & 56 for £750 to start with) especially when you can get a whole Supersix for £1000 stick some £500ish wheels on and be hard pushed to notice the difference if you didn't look at the stickers on the groupset.
If you can afford the HiMod and my personal choice a Sram Force BB30 groupset then do it as it'd niggle at you if you didn't if your anythng like me (the Evo wasn't available at that price when I bought mine, a Sram Foce Evo not that I was even looking for a new bike but thats another story...).
If you've any parts you can transfer you could make it cheaper but if I was building one on a "budget" then it'd be Force, your choice of used bar, stem, seatpost of Ebay. For wheels there are plenty of good deals around for £300 ish, Zondas, Fulcrum3, Cero AR whatevers, RS 81, or Spinergys at PBK including Conti tyres (always had a soft spot for these and with the white spokes they'd look mint) have 10% off you first order.
Was it a 54 or 56 you were after ? Because as Bender says therels less and less new about whereas hardly used ones on Ebay are ten a penny at rock bottom prices due to how much new ones have beeen discounted by.

It's a 56 that i am after as i think the 54 is a tad too small.
To be honest, i don't need a bike as my Synapse is fantastic. But i have just always had a hankering for a SuperSix. I have never bought a frame and built it up over time so that sort of appeals to me but I just don't know whether the Hi Mod offers the value that it appears too at first glance. Either way, this will be a Cycle Scheme purchase so it rules out any second hand bikes/frames. I currently have two Cannondales and both are running Shimano so that is what i am used to but am certainly not against changing if that offers better VfM/Performance.
I guess that you have answered my question though in as much as a SuperSix with some decent wheels would be difficult to tell apart from a Hi Mod.
Cheers for taking the time to reply.0 -

Having been the victim of a evo sizing curse twice over, 54cm too small, 56cm too big, I went and bought a Synapse as I really like how Cannondale bikes ride. The evo is a stunning bike, fantastic and the hi-mod snaps as soon as you push the pedals. However, here is an interesting thing. Today I did my #loop2 as I call it, on the synapse. 39.5 miles around the East Devon coast and the times are almost exactly the same. The interesting thing is that my Synapse is a non hi-mod frame and I am running 172.5 where as I normally run 165 (awating an adaptor) but I think all things being equal, they are all fantastic bikes offset by rider ability. I picked up some PB's on Strava towards the tail end of the ride today which may bear out the 'endurance' geo and still having the beanz later in the ride. I used to do silly mileage but now 40 - 60 miles down here enough given the terrain and tarmac quality. The Synapse lessens the perception of speed, but allows you to monster the descents too, thus clawing back anytime you may have lost going up. Aggregate riding I suppose though I got a pb on a 4th cat climb here this morning. Don't loose sleep over the bike. Its all about the legs, circles turning cirlces. Fast legs make fast bikes. If I had the dosh I would have bought the Synapse hi-mod, but ultimately, no quicker, no slower Can't wait to rig up my DA cranks though....0 -
Thought I'd post a picture of this up. Built it on Saturday for a friend, a very tall friend. Sorry for the awful pic but it's the only one I had time for, I'll try to get a better one soon

Finally made my mine up with a Rotor 3D+/Power2Max combo. Rides really well with great shifting on the Praxis rings. Weight should be hovering at just over 7kg now depending on wheelset.
Speaking of which, I'm quite tempted to de-sticker this wheelset; thoughts?

Dear All
Am engaging in a slow build of my evo six H M.....numpty q but it's the 2015 model from Paul's and came without a seat clamp...I know the post is 27.1 but can someone enlighten me as to size of seat clamp needed.
Going to run Praxis but am toying with Campag.....is the power torque essentially the same size as ultra torque as the latter is the only Campag/Praxis fit...
And finally.....I read bender/roubaix''s great take on Fulcrum Quattros....do these come with a weight limit....at a svelte 6/4 and 96kg....slightly concerned.0 -

It should have come with a seat clamp. The one I built did. Get in touch with Paul's and ask them what's going on
And the 63cm bike, no not for a basketball player. My friend is 6ft 6.5.2020 Reilly Spectre - raw titanium

Needs the proper clamp IMO as I think it has a tiny slotted bit that slides into the slot round the rear of the seat tube.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

And there she is... my beauty. 63 cm Supersix Ultegra.
And after changing the white bar tape:
Weighs in at 8.1 kg, but there is potential for reduction.
Any recommendations on budget wheel change? Not overly impressed with the Aksium Elite. I was advised not to use my Fulcrum 5 LG with Michelin Pro4 v2 as it will rub the frame. Tubeless is an option as well.0 -
I'm using superstar/pacenti with Schwalbe One 25mm on my Hi-mod and they're brilliant. I'd recommend a hand built of similar or better spec. Rides better than my Synapse Alloy on TB14/open Corsas and the roads are horrible round here. I've had no issues with clearance at all, but the comfort is genuinely brilliant, whilst still having seriously sharp handling. Not slow either, I've managed a 25-odd 10 mile TT without aero bars on them, and I'm weak.
Go as wide and big as you can manage. Ugo or Cycle Clinic would be better placed to advise on the specifics.0 -
The Fulcrum will be fine if you ditch the Michelin and swap in a smaller 25c.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Lol. I copied and pasted but don't tell anyone :P0 -
Any recommendations? I don't really want to be running 23s, still in the market for 25. With the Fulcrum (Michelin tyrev25C) on there was about 3 mm clearance from the chainstay. Michelin Pro4 Endurance V2's width is 28mm on 110 psi.
A possible option may be Conti GP 4000S II 23C. When inflated, width is 25mm, 25C is 27mm.
Decisions, decisions...0 -
GP4000S ll on Fulcrum Quarttros. Clearance to spare. I was a bit worried beforehand.0
-
Yeah, I suspect anything OTHER than Michelin Pro 25c will be fine. It's only cos they come up at 27c. So, GP4000, One, Corsa, all good.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I wonder if Sixes vary here. There is simply no way I'd get Pro 4 in there based on previous experience of how big they come up.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Only a Supersix here, I have Zonda`s with pro endurance 25 with than enough clearance.0
-
I suspect the Service Course Pro 4's are a bit narrower, whereas the Endurance ones are quite fat. Probably will go for Germcevoy's spec soon.0
