These are about 1650g. For about £600.

There are certainly cheaper ones out there, but it costs a bit (new) to go much lighter. Even the Fulcrum Quattro are a mere 50g lighter. Hunt quite a bit lighter, and a lot more.

They're on and I'll start with them on Sunday, perhaps tomorrow. 24 spokes and have cross lacing. None of that Fulcrum 2:1 stuff that others have noted might be a worry.

For me, the decision would be between something like these or an equivalent set from the likes of Farsports.

Doubtless the rims will be very similar. It's a question of whether you value the UK origin and warranty of the Bax or the choice of hubs and spokes that you can get with the Chinese ones (e.g. DT Swiss 350 or 240 and CXRays)

Just checked my PM's - I actually paid £320 delivered for my second hand, but mint (He was selling as he didn't have a disc bike anymore) 38mm carbon wheels - looks like they were built by Malcolm at Cycle Clinic, and weigh 1545g.
Not sure what they would have cost to have built up, perhaps £600?

They certainly seem like a nice solid set of wheels, and to my eye look really nice - no branding at all.

It did! Had to wait on new tyres to complete the job. Conti G4000 on there as they are easier to install than the Pro One tubeless I had ready to go on. And given I'm doing a sportive on Sunday being able to install tyres with a mere hand job was preferable

Nothing wrong with a hand job

THAT - is a fine question

I must have known at the time of purchase, but I can't remember, and there seems to be no marking on them alas.

So, did an 85 miler sportive today on the SuperX. Had to as I am testing the new Bax carbon 38mm discs. Easy to climb with. Hit a number of potholes and survived. Snappy on the descents. Look to be a winner.

Started out chilly today so opted for the Tiburu shorts. Hand on heart they are the best shorts I've ever owned.

I have been looking for a thermal 3/4 or bib short to replace my wearing ASSOS S2 pad equivalents. Thought about the Tiburu and the Rapha thermal bib short, however, there are a number of Parentini equivalents - for example:

    Any thoughts?

Afraid not. The non thermal Shark are excellent. I've no experience of the others. Getting them might be tricky.

Normal for Assos. I'm 5ft 10. 80kg and 35" waist and the large are fine. They are nicely compressive too.

Emailed them over the weekend to see whether they could supply adaptors to covert the 135mm hubs to fit a bike with 142mm rear spacing and its a "no go". Most unfortunate given their pre-order sale. Received a response from Jon and Bax on Sunday though, so communications are good if the wheels fit your bike. Shame, as they were looking good I thought....

Be interested to see your thoughts on the 38's in comparison to the 50's (or was it 60's) you had on the s'six?

Been thinking/looking at some aero hoops and although my recent habits have been for shorter, faster rides in anticipation of baby arrival I don't want to buy something I can't use in the hiils for 3-4 hours if and when the shackles are lifted.

I think that 60's are overkill for anything outside TT's. They work, and, of course, they look great.

So it's a choice between 38 and 50 for me. Keeping plus 20mph speeds on the 38's is a piece of cake. Climbing was easy. But then climbing was easy on the 60's too.

The 50's add a mere 75g or so, they're likely faster. They look that bit better. It's tricky.

And how do the 38's compare to Quattro's???

Been looking at the 32mm Cosine's from Wiggle - claimed weight is under 1500g and same/similar profile to Quattro's. But then for a little more could get some cheap chinese carbon....

They're faster than the Quattros. Which is good as they're on different bikes. The 38's are discs and on the SuperX. The Quattro are 35 and are on the SuperSix.

IF the Cosine last and are good quality then they appear to be no brainers. That said, I thought Wiggle had removed them last week? Odd to see them back.

Hmm, I was looking at them both all last week as I dabbled with what to replace the Pro Lite's with. As far as I'm aware they were always there in stock with 10+ available.

In fact, the disc wheels have been delivered today.

According to the Q&A on Wiggle:

"Unfortunately the disc models are now listed as discontinued so we won't be receiving any more of these from the manufacturer."

Went for disc's in the end. Decided to give disc's one last chance and if I'm still finding them a fanny on, gonna sell on the bike.

Reviews seem mainly positive, but will see...

For anyone interested, the Rapha 25% discount code for doing their survey works against the currently discounted bundles meaning you end up with a decent discount. I'd recently bought a pro team midweight jersey using one of the classics 20% off codes but as I've not yet worn it I'll send it back and get the bundle with the pro team shorts instead for about £85 quid more than I paid for the jersey (the RRP of the shorts is £195!).

I used a few codes the other day to get one of the Core bundles. my first foray in to Rapha gear & so far I'm really impressed

That was a long review and I even perused that web site on the rolling resistance link.

You'll have to wax lyrical if you're going to wean me off Victoria's for winter and the nice big fat Michelin's 25's (that actually sit bigger than the Vittoria 27's) for summer.

But be totally honest (and pretending to forget the contents of Schwalbe brown envelope  ), if you took one of each of the top Conti's, Schwalbe's, Michelin's etc,, pumped up to the optimum pressure, would you really notice a difference?
There were no figures for clincher with latex tubes and i'm not going tubeless. Until I have worn out the current stock of wheels - then i'll probably go tubular anyway.
