  • Just had a check. Looks like the Bonka survives but there's a Profblack version of it (sigh).

    But there's a new Mille winter jacket, http://www.wiggle.co.uk/assos-millejack ... er-jacket/

replaces the iShaq which I was never fond of as it has weird material all over it. And this follows suit.

Looks like it is made from bin liner! hmm. can't see myself in one of those. The fit is all wrong on the guy in the pictures, looks terrible. Typical Mille fit, lol.

I normally look on the Assos main website and the regular Bonka is on special sale and only available now in odd sizes, it is sure to be phased out.

interesting that the Mille jacket and the Profblack Bonka are not on the main site but are on wiggle. Profblack is limited edition though so maybe there is one more season to go for the Bonka before it is replaced.
  • Yeah, I think the Bonka will last out this year. Looks very much like Assos are moving to no branding/design now though other than the different colour sleeve(s).

  • Yeah, saw that. Ashima just do rotors and pads now so I wonder if they (juin Tech) are an offshoot or whether they sold off the IP

  • I like them so much I even rode up and down the street on them earlier just to remind myself. Good price that. They should go on really easily and should last. I'm pretty much of the view that 30c is the new 28c.

Got them on now and pretty impressed;not too much of a struggle to get them on but did use a tyre bead jack so the second tyre went on and up in under ten minutes;front needed re-doing but that was due to the old rim-tape.

Look good on the bike as well.

  • Good to hear!

A few new things. I bought a Giro Foray because it was £35. Short term replacement for my broken Mojito. Thing is, it's really good, 20g or so heavier than a Synthe and looks the same. £35. Bonkers value. I may write a piece just because of that.

And, Assos new Mille intermediate jersey. Interesting. Thicker windproof front but all present and correct otherwise. Size DOWN from the S7 version. And save £80 on RRP.

    A whole 20 grams?!? That's intolerable.

    £28 from Winstanley Bikes.

I have never known such a tight fisted bunch of people as cyclists. (Apart from accountants but we won't go there as it's Saturday. Accountant bashing can resume on Monday).

That's one hell of a long review for just one garment. Personally, I wouldn't call it 'budget Assos' and the Falkenzahn is eye wateringly expensive for what it is.

I find these intermediate type jerseys are the most heavily used items in my wardrobe.

I am still using my intermediate evo which is still in perfect condition after 6 years and many hundreds of washes. It won't wear out!

I'm not reading it because I dont want to buy one, but I know that I will if I do read your review... Then again, maybe I will weaken later!
  • It's very nice. £118 if you have Wiggle discount. It's possible to find the S7 around for that type of money but you have to either bid on ebay or be really lucky.

  • One for your shortlist Bender - just got a pair of Rivelo Honister bib shorts on sale from Sport Pursuit.
I was ordering something else and thought id give them a try - I'm so glad I did.
They fit amazingly well, are true to size (for a change) and the pad is very comfortable indeed.

Being on Sport Pursuit, I got them for less than half the RRP, but after trying them, they are definitely at least as good as other bib shorts up around that money - and at half price they are a steal. Ill be back for more.

I'm due some Rivelo knicks in the coming weeks. Possibly even this week. And some other exciting stuff, including a product no-one knows about and one which should really shake up the wet weather market.

Looks like a nice jersey, but seeing as I bought my Gore Bike Wear Xenon Jersey for £55 I find it hard justifying the extra. Even today it seems you can get it for a bit over £80 which is still a considerable difference.

  • It is and those two are pretty well matched. I prefer the Assos because it lacks windproof arms (and those zips) but the Xenon is a really good piece IMO.

    The emperor's new clothes???

Is that the Gore Xenon 2.0 that's more like a jacket than a jersey?

    http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/reviews/ ... 2-0-jersey

How do you find it? I am looking for an intermediate top (jacket/jersey) of some description, preferably with windstopper. I'm not paying some of the above figures for an intermediate jacket and £80 is well within what I see as a reasonable amount. I want a windstopper front - it's always bloody windy here on the West Coast of Scotland.

On a slightly different tack and separate from the above:
The thing is, I run cool and I am slightly disappointed with my Castelli Alpha jacket - supposedly good for minus figures with a merino base layer - nope, I was frozen to bits below 5 degrees with it on. I have a very old Clas Cajastur thermal long sleeve jersey and ended up putting it on top of the Alpha jacket. Hardly what I had in mind when I got it and damn pricey too for what it's supposed to do but didn't. Since then, i'm not bamboozled by any price tag or marketing spiel.

  • There are three Gore Xenon "jersey/jacket" things.

The first is a proper jacket, it's a full soft shell despite what Gore say about blurring the boundary.

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/gore-bike-wear- ... ll-jacket/

The second is a wind stopper jersey, the one Gabriel has. That is much more a jersey/jacket affair, good for cooler days

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/gore-bike-wear- ... ve-jersey/

Then finally a roubaix type jersey, they don't seem to make that one anymore

As a substitute for the Alpha the Alpha jersey is warmer than the middle one above. The Alpha Jacket is warmer than the top one above, marginally. If you are struggling with the cold in the Alpha then I'd look beyond the Xenon.

Thanks for that BTR. I did say 'as an aside' and I am looking for something between what I have now and the Alpha.
I do like the look of that Gore Xenon too; the white and red. Good visibility for night time rides.

Is there anything in the super thick merino base layer department?
