They have made the mistake of assuming that there is one...
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Well, to be fair, Labour are doing their best at the moment to give that impression. I do actually think they have got underlying principles, but they are too afraid of the RW press to express them and act accordingly, leaving the 'left behind' and 'progressive' voters equally underwhelmed. That's not a recipe for electoral success, even if the economy does pick up over the next four years.
Whilst I think the Tories are going to remain a shitshow as long as they stick with leaders drawn from the 2019-2024 shambles, even if Labour are merely competent (still an improvement), they shouldn't bank on that remaining the case. I'd be genuinely interested what would happen if someone like Rory Stewart miraculously found himself as their leader: genuinely intelligent and thoughtful, and untainted by association with the recent headbangers.

They'd be wiped out under Stewart.

Depends how much Labour screw up. If all they do is a half-hearted impersonation of centrist Tory policy whilst being afraid of Reform, a re-imagined Tory Party that said "screw it, we got Brexit wrong, we got the tax burden wrong, we squandered billions on dodgy contracts with mates, etc." might... oh, hmm, yes, maybe a hard sell, but better than being Reform Lite (or not so lite).
I'm sure it hasn't escaped your attention that the Tories were only a small step from being wiped out under Sunak - they are still caught between a rock and a hard place.

You probably think that as he is more aligned with your views: I think you may be in a minority. In any event, anyone who demonstrates poor judgment by doing a joint podcast with Alastair Campbell should never be allowed in a position of power.

The Tory Party en masse was more aligned with my views just 14 years ago... remember that pro-EU, not-the-nasty- party back then?

If you believe the often repeated 'nasty' bit. Some say that is lazy leftiebollox.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]1 -
Well, I was merely quoting the Telegraph's and Cameron's leftiebollox in this instance.

And I was merely doing a bit of leftie mythbusting.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Ah, OK, so the Telegraph of 2012 and David Cameron were lefties. Got it.

Rory Stewart would probably be a great administrator - the prisons job suited him because it's not that political - or maybe head up an international ngo. I just don't think he is in tune with the majority. He'd probably offer to take in the population of Gaza if it helped solve the palestinian problem - that's the impression he gives - more concerned with solving international problems than British interests.

So nobody else has ever used the word 'nasty' when referring to the tories? 🙂
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Oh, sure I have, but in the knowledge that it was recognised by both Cameron and the Telegraph as a word that applied to them. I can't think of a better word to use for, say, Jenrick ordering the painting-over of Mickey Mouse murals where traumatised children were being detained, or Braverman stirring up anti-Muslim stuff for political gain.
It's a pity, because for all his other faults, Cameron had done a passable job of dispelling that image.

Surely you can never forgive Cameron for allowing *that* referendum?

You sounded quite positive about a man who seems to be the trigger for all of your problems and frustrations.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
You seem to overlook the possibility that people aren't all good or all bad, sometimes make good decisions and sometimes don't. Maybe you find it confusing that I am praising a Tory for something good they did... or the Telegraph for reporting on the 'nasty' epithet which Cameron recognised.

You praising a Tory is something that did throw me a bit. However you've already won the 'Biggest Tory hater in Cake Stop' prize for the year, so I guess you can take your foot off the pedal a bit now.

Oh man. A lot us have worked hard for that award and you give it to Trumpet. 😢

FFS. Still, he's worked hard for it, fair enough.

Sorry, but it's hard to beat a former Tory turned centre leftie. They're a bit like reformed smokers, never stop banging about it 😉

Anyhow, interesting article in the Standard about Rachel Reeves problems.

Maybe you only qualify if you write in English rather than jumbled nonsense.

Another embarrassment for Labour as a senior governement minister lets the mask slip to reveal her business unfriendly leftiebollox credentials and puts a significant investment in the UK at risk:

Was she wrong though?
Johnson and Sunak said pretty much the same at the time.
