Not to mention death in service benefits and sick pay of typically 6 months full pay, 6 months half pay, and then the possibility of being pensioned off early if unable to work again.
Thete needs to be a better explanation of the public sector remuneration packages beyond basic pay.

The additional benefits are certainly better than for most in the private sector and the pension is the only thing that would get me back. It’s certainly something that gets overlooked by employees and Unions when making their case. However, for local government in particular I don’t think it balances out (at least not in my field), the pension at Civil Service level is definitely far more attractive.
It doesn’t pay the mortgage and bills during your 40 years or so of working life though so if your pay isn’t going up with inflation each year your probably going to struggle at some point.

Have to agree as I've already said pretty much that. Given Labour will know this as well, you have wonder why they are still planning on doing it...

Is the labour plan mush different from what the Tories announced last year? I thought it was pretty much the same thing but this suggests it has gone further.

They are going further in a way that could cause some significant tax bills for non-doms, hence the reports of wealthy individuals leaving. The main one appears to be this:
"The current position
At a high level, trusts established by non-domiciled individuals can benefit from a broad exemption from inheritance tax for so long as they only hold assets situated outside of the UK.
The proposed changes
Labour have indicated that they will remove this inheritance tax protection. Their 9 April proposals said: “Labour will include all foreign assets held in a trust within UK inheritance tax, whenever they were settled, so that nobody living here permanently can avoid paying UK inheritance tax on their worldwide estates.”
Also this:
"Labour have indicated their intention to make the transitional reliefs less generous, in particular eliminating the proposal that existing non-doms would only be subject to income tax on 50 per cent of their foreign income received in the first year of the new regime (tax year 2025/26)."

So one of the main changes is only affecting one year?

It appears that Starmer's home Arsenal tickets are not included in the gift list because he sits in the director's box at the invitation of the club.

He's been given multiple tickets for European games by the Premier League. They have been throwing tickets to lots of things at Labour MPs once it became obvious that they would be the ones to make decisions on football governance.

The second one is secondary. The main one is the IHT according to my brief reading.

Yes, so I think his undeclared more secure director's seat is ok. The rest less so.

This article lists all the freeby tickets declared by MPs of all parties.
I’m mystified as to why it is such big news. Although Labour are certainly winning on the gift stakes.
It also points out that Sunak a Southampton supporter isn’t on the list.

And right on cue, Labour start back pedalling on non-doms...
For the reasons I have previously stated.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Weird when I thought they were going to tax the wealthy out of existence. Lucky no other Parties were proposing doing this...

Your pragmatism is part of their philosophy, from the quotes in that article.

Another 'but, but, nasty Tories' reply.
If you read about the proposals, you'll see that Labour were going further. Enough to cause a reaction, hence the treasury advice to back down as it wouldn't raise any money.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
So are you saying there is a line where it goes from a good idea to a bad one and that line is exactly where the Tory policy stopped?
FWIW it's always felt more like one of those policies that were more about popularity than actually raising significant income. It fits nicely with the narrative of super rich living overseas to dodge taxes. The only way to raise significant additional revenue without strong economic growth is for everyone to pay more, most people would rather everyone they perceive as richer than them to pay more.

I'm saying that the Labour proposals caused quite a few non-doms to up sticks or at least start planning to do so.

If a non-dom ups sticks do they move to the UK? 😉

The magic money tree for Matt is called The Telegraph. £650k a year for gold like that.

Another one bites the dust...
Note also his comment: "However, Mr Angermayer said he was far from alone. “Every non-dom I know has left or is about to leave,” he told Bloomberg."
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
I think we can do without that one, thanks.

And the rest of them that he refers to?
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Do you reckon his union negotiated his pay packet?

You're very trusting.

If reporting says that someone has already moved to another country to avoid future inheritance tax changes that haven't been announced yet, I'd suggest that's not the real reason they are moving.
It might be uncomfortable for The Telegraph to admit that it is the changes that were announced in April this year that are the trigger.

Do you have any specific reason to disbelieve him, apart from that fact that you don't want to believe what he said?
