The point point that some of the departing individuals have said they that are doing so due to Labour might give you a clue.

There’s a recent precedent for flouncing off and blaming others.😉

Damn these wealthy flouncers! 😀 Although is everybody sad to see them go....?

do you have any specific reason to believe him, apart from that fact that you don't want to disbelieve what he said?

do you agree with his view on brexit? or only on non-dom?

It's for you find a reason to doubt the truth of it.

no, it's for you to prove your assertion

Use some common sense - there is no way that someone would have put in place a massive upheaval to avoid a nebulous future unannounced change to INHERITANCE TAX. They may well be thinking about it if it is announced and the details will affect them.
But the reporting would have you think the guy who has been here for 10 years is leaving because of what Labour might do, when he has already left - just before the changes that mean people who have been here less than 15 years suddenly have to pay more tax. You might buy it, I'm not having it.
Interestingly, he's the guy who wants to start the PED games to rival the Olympics.

I actually find the rest of the Telegraph funnier these days, which is ironic, given that it's not trying to be funny.

Its a statement by a departing billionaire. Your failure to answer the question about whether you have any reason to disbelieve him is rather telling.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
I guess you're psychic then and you know that they're lying by reading their minds? Plenty of the wealthy know that are likely to get rinsed by Labour even discounting what they already know about the non dom changes and don't want to take chances.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
I give them a bit more credit than that. It's a big decision.
But I can't specifically see where this guy says that all his non dom friends are leaving because of this Labour change, just "the planned changes". Which includes those that come into effect in April 2025. That I can understand.
If you can point me to where he says that he is leaving because of Labour's proposals, then I wouldn't believe him, it's true.

Your willingness to take at face value everything the Telegraph prints is rather more telling. It's safe to assume that all news sources have an agenda, and one should remain sceptical, whether that's the BBC, the Morning Star, the Guardian, or the Telegraph. That said, the more obvious the agenda, the more sceptical one should be.

it's a nonsense clickbait story in a debased excuse for a newspaper
your failure to answer the question about whether you have any reason to believe him is rather telling, as is your ignoring the question about whether you agree with his reported views on brexit

If you read the article you would see that he doesn't name names so there is no way for me to verify. However I can see no reason why he would lie about it. So back to you - do you know of any reason why he would be lying?
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Sorry if you don't like the article, but do you know of any reason why he would be lying?
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Specific reference to the government - which is Labour for the avoidance of doubt. And to the Labour manifesto.
'A German cryptocurrency billionaire has quit Britain for Switzerland in protest over the Government’s plans to crack down on non-doms."
"He is the latest entrepreneur to abandon the UK over the Government’s plans to end a tax perk for wealthy residents domiciled overseas, which was included in Labour’s election manifesto."
Hope that clears it up for you.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
That's not a quote from him.

I know. It in the article though and nobody has been able to give any specific reasons to disbelieve what is in it.

as usual, you dodge the question

You dodged mine...as usual. So tell me why I should bother answering your question.

Well that didn't take long...wonder if there will be any suitable vegetable type comparison of longevity? 🙂

no i didn't, you simply ignored my answer
then, as usual, you dodged the question
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
What, this one? It's been so long I'd forgotten, but clearly its still bothering you.
I don't agree with his view on Brexit but I do agree with his view on the Labour tax changes for non-Doms.
Now you answer my question.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Back to Labour, and this tweet by Peston could be a good take. It come a day or two after Alastair Campbell opined that Labour had to get hold of the political narrative and appoint press-savvy people. And Will Hutton's piece in the Observer is on-point too - it's not only the electorate who need to hear that philosophy expressed and acted upon, but Starmer's own MPs, if he's going to retain their goodwill following their election to government.

Where would you be without quoting X Brian?

Bluesky or Threads, but CS doesn't allow for quoting of them in the same way as Twatter. I'm still hoping that Musk sells it to someone with a mental age of over 15 before it goes tweets up. I think he'll give up if his buddy Trump loses.
