Lidl move is interesting. Will this together with the Kittel buy move Lefevre away from a Czech focus to a German one? Just co-sponsor for the moment, but it's suggested Lidl could take over the whole team. Cetainly together with Sky the biggest company sposonring a pro team, right?
There's a lot of big companies who have pulled out of quite modest budgets.
I looked at this once, and I think that Movistar (via Telefonica) are the richest sponsor.Twitter: @RichN950 -
Kind of snuck under the radar, but Marseille-13 KTM are going Pro Conti next year as Delko-Marseille Provence KTM.
Remy di Gregorio is their biggest name at the moment, but given the amount of riders they have got rid of, more must be on the way. The French transfer market at the minute is pretty active, given Europcar's new sponsor and Bretagne Seche's expansion, as well as 4 Continental teams.
It would do the French Pro Conti teams a lot of good to have to fight for a Tour place.0 -
Folks, can you define 'biggest' and 'richest'... on a pure revenue basis Sky plc is significantly smaller than Telefonica and Lidl, which are roughly the same size.
Agree that Telefonica is probably the financially largest company involved in sponsoring a team atm.0 -

If you count skoda as VW it would have been the biggest until 2 weeks ago (by valuation)....0 -

Given the guy who owns Etixx/QS is of Czech extraction, Ik denk het niet."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Cycling Podcast mention on their most recent show that Eddie Dunbar is set to leave NFTO at the end of the season to step up and join an as of yet unnamed Pro Conti team.0

I thought NFTO were stepping up to Pro-Conti?0 -

I know that's one of their main goals, but i'm sure I read only ONE PC will step up next year.0 -

5 of the 2016 Team DD riders will be ex-Highroad
4 of the 2015 EQS team are ex-Highroad
8 of the 2012 Sky team were ex-Highroad0 -
So, I'm a bit behind. What was the forum's reaction to Landa's move to Sky? Did anyone need to revisit their Giro opinions?0

Laurens ten Dam (plus Rick Flens, Barry Markus and Brian Bulgac) released by Lotto-Jumbo.
I wonder where he'll end up? He's a rock solid, high quality GC/stage racing domestique.0 -

Might have lost out a bit of practice serving a high quality GC contender however...!
Either way I imagine most jumbo leavers will be taking a punchy pay cut.0 -
Budgets are tight on Roompot then?0

Jumbo riders are all overpaid.
Remember reading something that their budget is something like 4th biggest in the peloton or something.0 -

I thought he would be going to TREK with Baukeee M0 -

If Giant Alpecin really want to add a few riders to ride for Tom Dumoulin they could do a lot worse than Ten Dam, strong diesel to protect him0 -
I'm surprised at Ten Dam, but apparently on a big wage (Sky wouldn't match it a couple of years ago). Jumbo laying off the old and expensive, I guess.
Ten Dam already said he wasn't going to renew. He wants to do mainly US domestic races next season then the Tour. I can't see many teams willing to take that up"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

As far as Astana goes, I think the questions have been asked more around the Russian/Kazakh contingent than the west Europeans. Clearly Sky think Landa is clean, anyway. It remains to be seen whether he'll follow team orders better there than at the Vuelta. But he knew he was leaving so had not much to lose.0 -

Word is that his ABP is clean as a whistle
(and yes, fully aware that's not 100% proof of not being on the naughties. But worth saying - especially as Sky took JTL on the basis of shining personal recommendations, rather than backed up by any actual tests)0 -

The difference is they have a few years of ABP for Landa and had nothing for JTL, so any tests couldn't judged in context. That's what i thought anyway.0 -

JTL would've been on the BP for 6 months before joining Sky, as required by the UCI, but your point still stands.0 -

His very first sample collection by CADF for the ABP was taken on the day before the Worlds RR on 22 Sep
My point was that Sky had him do absolutely zero in the way of tests but just went off the basis of a good word from Herety (and Julian Wynn IIRC). Even with all the French press coverage from the time he beat Phil Gil, Voeckler etc in Haut Var and so on.
As a result of massive amounts of egg on their faces re JTL, they now have a barrage of tests run on riders as a pre-requisite for signing new contracts, if they dont already have ABP profile histories ie come from Conti teams eg Nathan Earle.0
