Super excited for Team Dimension Data!
Already a strong team, their signings keep raising eyebrows.
Nathan Haas is a badass and probably has a couple of grand tour stages in him!
Rumour has it that Brian Holm and Bjarne Riis are in this together, hence Holm's wolfpack joining.BikeRadar Communities Manager0 -

Lidl to sponsor Etixx Quickstep next year
That's not quite the big German name that was being mooted..."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

It's interesting that some more household names are entering the sport as cyclists rather than the usual lottery operators and cleaning companies. Maybe a sign that the image is a bit cleaner than in the past?0

German? Tick.

I'd say it ticks all the boxes there. Though it isn't clear from the handful of references I've read if they are actually coming on board as a named sponsor. I imagine if there is confusion about this the day after the presser then no.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -

I'm not sure anyone is expecting a return to the Highroad sprint train days... times have changed and the riders have aged.
But Team DD is an interesting confluence of a bunch of cycling characters with a background in doing things a bit different or at least shaking up the established order...
Please no....
Team Double D!
Let's hope Cav doesn't make a tit of himself.0 -

It was a clever jape based around their mooted signing of Marcel Kittel."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Lidl served some lovely fresh pastries, coffee and meatball soup at the top of Oude Kwaremont on RVV day this year. All free too. Just what I needed after the sportive. Glad they are upping their involvement in cycling tbh2020 Reilly Spectre - raw titanium
2020 Merida Reacto Disc Ltd - black on black
2015 CAAD8 105 - very green - stripped to turbo bike
2018 Planet X Exocet 2 - grey
The departed:
2017 Cervelo R3 DI2 - sold
Boardman CX Team - sold
Cannondale Synapse - broken
Cube Streamer - stolen
Boardman Road Comp - stolen0 -
So Lidl start sponsoring Etixx and they immediate substitute an overpriced British brand name with a cheaper equivalent and probably superior German brand name.

I do like the Lidl bakery. Coffee and Meatball soup I'm sceptical of, however. Not a big seller, I wouldn't have thought."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

So.... does 'official fresh food partner' now make you a name sponsor? Happy to be told otherwise, but I'm not convinced EQS' name will change.
Also, it's interesting how sponsorship is always assumed to be the parent company. But we see multiple times that the sponsorship actually only come from a regional unit or division. Europcar was the most apparent, where it turned out that the team was only actually sponsored by the Vendee unit of Europcar. Equally, the Deloitte sponsorship of Team DD (I'm going to persist) is being promoted by Deloite South Africa rather than main group...
The pics I've seen from the EQS-Lidl show all refer to Lidl.be... that may just be that they're promoting the Belgian unit, but I suspect that the Schwarz group are less involved that all would like to think.0 -
Ballsy move by Kittel if he goes to EQS. They've struggled to produce a lead out train for 3 years now and they're losing Holm and (I assume) Aldag.
Going from what Brian Smith is saying, could Cav have an eye on the classics? He showed well over the cobbles in the Tour this year, would like to see him give PR a real go.0 -

If Tomeke appears in the Lewisham, Eltham or Welling Lidl stores I'm 'avvin' him for my garage. Would look ace next to the flanders flag draped next to the turbo trainer!

Possible, seeing as when they were so successful with it in 09, 10 and 11 there wasn't another train in sight.
But Peeters seems to get bad press on that front.0 -

Lidl move is interesting. Will this together with the Kittel buy move Lefevre away from a Czech focus to a German one? Just co-sponsor for the moment, but it's suggested Lidl could take over the whole team. Cetainly together with Sky the biggest company sposonring a pro team, right?0
