Transfers 2016 : Rumours and fact

With Cavendish still smarting from not winning an Olympic gold, he clearly looks like he is going for it at the moment (track wise, that is). Swiss Tony has repeatedly stated that team duties come first, coupled with Cav's lacklustre showing at le Tour, must surely point to the door closing at Ettix.
So, which track friendly/sympathetic teams might welcome him? OGE? Clearly (and rightly so) building a team for the future with the Yates twins at the nucleus. Sky? Would make sense, for a year; but could he afford to lose a year of stage win contention if he is aiming for the top spot in stage wins? Probably not. Team Wiggins? A step or 3 down, concentrate on olympic gold before quietly retiring? Seemed a good theory in the pub last night after several glasses of pop, but does Cav do anything quietly? And anyway, wouldn't he insist on the team being renamed to Team WiggoCav? MTN? To bag a star name like Cav, surely they would want him to ride, and be seen in their colours all season long...didn't Brian Smith pretty much say it wasn't happening on Eurosport?
So where might he be going?0 -
Can't see the Wiggins thing to be honest, I know it's what the team was established for but Cav seems to proud to ride for a lower ranked team. Sky maybe but it was all a bit sour last time so not sure. The other thing to bear in mind is that there are quite a lot of riders that will want to concentrate on track next year so maybe he will end up in a team that have a fair few of these at a cut price in order for them to cover a bunch of races whilst keeping the workload low, maybe from that point of view Orica makes sense.
He will probably end up staying where he is for another year but on a massively cut price deal on the proviso that he can do track work.0 -
Seems a good place as any for this, Both Trek and MTN Qhubeka have reportedly turned down sponsorship interest from Bjarne Riis & Saxo Bank.0

Not sure if OGE will be quite so track friendly for a non Aussie rider. I dont think their budget is particularly big either so signing Cavendish would make a big dent in that. If he is to move rather than stay at Etix then Trek seems like the most realistic option at the moment in terms of budget and space in their team.0 -
Theoretically a one year deal with Sky seems useful for Cav to get through an Olympic year at WT level but I cant see Sky wanting to appear so indulgent, it would be a bit disrespectful to other riders and would undermine the seperation from BC that has gradually occurred. He wouldnt drop to Team Wiggins level. Maybe staying with Ettix on a retainer salary for the year will be the answer?2020/2021/2022 Metric Century Challenge Winner0

He cant go back to Sky for a year if only because of the Great Death Star Nespresso Scandal of 2012

Was it Wiggo or was it Rob Hales using his BC connections to break in to mess with Cav. I gather that Cav baiting is one of Hales' favourite pastimes and he is in fact banned from Cav's kitchen when he visits due to his jar and crockery moving antics.Coach H. Long term reader and new poster. I came here to post about seeing Adam Blythe posting on Facebook with lots of gear. I was beaten to it.

Chava is going to Fortuneo Vital Concept (ex Bretagne Seche)
It still seems that Chavanel’s future direction is still not certain. He has recently been in talks with Jean-René Bernaudeau (Europcar) about the possibility of him terminating his career with him if he (JRB) finally finds a sponsor. Chavanel started his professional career with Bernaudeau’s Bonjour team back in 2000.
With the deadline of 15 August long passed, the future of Europcar still hangs in the balance.

On a slightly related note, Julien Bernard is currently doing the USA Pro Challenge as a stagiare with Trek. He's the son of the evanescent Jean-François so it will be interesting to see what genes he's inherited.

Definitely seems to be something of an old-time Garmin feel to the riders they're signing this year.0 -
