That could be a costly slip Goo, just a pity Elton John's lot didn't mess up as well. Jeez this is going to be a nailbiting finish to the season :!:

Had a feeling that today would be awkward, and so it proved. Next game is Monday week (home to Bolton), so if Boro and the other two win their games Cherries could be in 4th place on Saturday afternoon before they play 2 days later.

Cherries struggled somewhat against the Seagulls. Come on Brighton.
Boro should beat Full of Ham.

Cherries don't play till monday night. The psychological effect of going from Top to 4th within 10 days, and knowing you must win will be huge.

The mentality he's instilled in his players to attack has been fantastic.

Agreed. Considering Cherries were close to folding a few years back, and also the fact that there most expensive signing is Callum Wilson at £3m (he'll move on up to Prem one day).
I reckon even if they fail to go up this season, he will be there for one more term. And then on up to the Premiership either with Cherries or a move.
I cannot see him wanting to manage one of the YoYo clubs, unless the offer is too good. So the only options I can see for him are Everton or Spurs, assuming they are interested of course. I don't think Everton is viable as his family didn't settle down in the NW, hence his move back to Cherries from Burnley. Spurs may be on the cards in two seasons time, and especially if he does win promotion with Cherries. Will be sorry to see him leave, but such a talent needs to be brought to a bigger club and if he continues then I truly believe that he will be England manager before he is 50.
Villa is another option. The honeymoon for Tim Sherwood will come to an end soon.

  • A season the Premiership will do him good, whatever the outcome with the Cherries. He'll encounter some pretty organised defences once up in the PL and teams who thrive on punishing sides on the counter, so we'll see how he handles that. But he's young in terms of Managers (much like Karanka), so I expect him to have a successful career.

Can't think which PL teams do that :)

Anyhow, roll on the weekend - it's going to be interesting !

I hardly think that grinding out a 1-0 win with a counter attacked goal is punishment. I do take it you are talking about the boys from Stamford Bridge.

Naturally. Taking 3 points and leaving your opponent with none is punishment in my books. A bigger score line is just icing on the cake.

Rotherham deducted 3 points, now only 1 pt above drop. Hope now for Wigan or Millwall to avoid the drop.
Another big day for the promotion contenders tomorrow. As Cherries don't play till monday I fully expect them to be in 4th place by 5pm.

Bad news for us as we play Wigan and Milwall last two games. They both had nothing to play for really until this decision :(

Balls. Looks like it's the play offs for us unless Bournemouth screw it up twice in a row.

On our way to the game yesterday, I commented that while on paper the top 4 should win all their remaining games, statistically there would be 1 or 2 shocks. Norwich AND Boro dropping points yesterday to send Watford up was not what I had in mind.

Sorry Boro, can't see the muff ballsing up now. Norwich will probably feel like they owe you after that recent win there.

All we have to do now is beat Brighton 19-0 on Saturday and hope that Bournemouth lose...

Goo - I may as well say congratulations to Bournemouth (and Watford) now, you never know we might be joining you for a kicking next season if we get lucky in the play offs :)

'Boro in the PL will give me tons of forum mileage when they get thrashed here and there, so come on Boro.

Chelski 5 - Middlesbrough 0. That will cause schizophrenia in some punters.

  • Between Boro and Norwich in the play offs now. Looking forward to Brighton on saturday, although it would have been better if we were going up!

Either Boro or Norwich will have the wind taken out of their sales now. It happens quite often where a team on cusp of automatic promotion has to endure the play-offs. I hope its Norwich who fall.
Plus it would be good to see Lewis Grabban remain in the Championship after jumping ship last season. Though it has come to pass that the Cherries didn't miss his services.

Yeah had exact same conversation with a work colleague about this a few weeks ago, as you say it's a regular occurance. It's something the sports psychologists are yet to solve it seems. Norwich could possibly be aided in avoiding such a fate if they draw Ipswich for the two legs at it should help them maintain focus.

Having said that I've already backed against Norwich to get promoted, they were favourites on Betfair but with the play-offs there is no time to iron out untimely injuries, poor performances or bad refereeing decisions like there is over a 46 game season. 3 games and one bad one, be it something like a red card or your most experienced ever-reliable centre half slicing into his own net is all it takes and you are toast.
  • After the last Norwich game, over two legs we'd have no players uninjured for the play-off final!

Glad it s Bournemouth and Watford going up auto as I wouldn't fancy either in the playoffs. Reckon the Boro have a decent chance despite the curse of finishing 3 or 4th
