Depends whether you count where you came from or where you are now. The upward mobility opportunities created by the Thatcher revolution did change it for some peopleStevo_666 said:

Where you are now, obviously. I could make a similar claim, if I skip back another generation or two. Social mobility around the time Thatcher was born.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

I was going on the old adage that you can take the boy out of Middlesbrough..."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -

It'll be good fun when they do launch, as even the mention of their upcoming 'wokewatch' feature generated a bit of debate on hereballysmate said:"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]2 -
Interested to read how the new GB news channel is pretty much completely owned by foreigners. 6 of the 8 directors are also either foreign or based overseas, even Neal is registered as living in France.0
-
'kin hell! Some people were desperate to hate it before it launched because they thought it was going to be UK Fox News fronted by the likes of Julia Hartley Brewer and Nigel Farage. Now that's turned out to be a crock of sh.it they want to hate it because it's owned by foreigners and Andrew Neil lives in France?1
-
Perhaps the haters just don't like foreigners?
Coz obviously it won't have the integrity of the BBC will it?2 -
Fake news.
Who said anything about hate?
You don't find it interesting or intriguing that GB news is foreign owned and managed?
You guys are unbelievable. Just because I treat GB news with suspicion it doesn't follow I uphold the beeb as a paragon of virtue. That's the kind of logic you get from Trump supporters.1 -
Ok. No I don't find it interesting or intriguing that it's foreign owned. I can see why someone who was suspicious of it would see some irony in it I guess but that's about it. I'm more interested to hear why you're suspicious.elbowloh said:Fake news.

Why would you set up a news organisation in a foreign country? It's not for the money as its very likely it won't make money, most news channels don't. It's costing something in the region of £100m to set up.
That pretty much leaves the most likely reason being to exert influence.
Why do you think RT set up in the UK?0 -
So Elbow is suspicious of foreigners? But what if they're EU resident, does that make it OK?shortfall said:

I think there's every chance it will be commercially successful and profitable which is why the left hate it already. You have a point that the backers probably want to exert influence but that's no different to many other news outlets. As long as it's transparent about where the money comes from and it's regulated by OFCOM I don't see it as a problem.elbowloh said:

That Andrew Neil is a bit of a bounder, hey what, living in France and all?1

Yes, and he went to a grammar school as well. Oh and he's a Scot who supports the Union. What an absolute cad!ballysmate said:That Andrew Neil is a bit of a bounder, hey what, living in France and all?

The business plan of it explicitly says it is relying on donations and does not expect to turn a profit.shortfall said:

What does your personal dislike of Boris Johnson have to do with GB News? I don't like him either if that helps? I am however looking forward to seeing some news and analysis that isn't the same old same old.orraloon said:Toryfanbois out in force again. Likee, likee, likee. Hardly ironic though.

The reputable ones. Rather that a news station with an explicit agenda.0 -
Ever watched Al Jazeera? Not the same old, same old and without the inherent bias of the UK press.shortfall said:

Ja quite right Veronese.
Used to work somewhere where it was on all day right by my head.
Was fine until one day they had some graphic open heart surgery on the short loop so every 10 minutes I had this open chest with a quivering lungs and heart right up in my face.0 -
I can't say that I have tbh but I sometimes watch RT (yes I know it's Kremlin backed).veronese68 said:
