Nieve dropped?! Bit early for that, surely.
Yeah, it's always been GT more or less alone that I've seen shepherding Porte around in the hills so far. Maybe Nieve just doesn't have great form, which isn't good for Sky...

Just switched on. Who chased the break? Did they make Astana work?

No, it was almost entirely Katusha and then Europcar.

No KOM points for Voeckler today then

I'm a fan of Tommy, but this tour has been virtually all show and not much content from him, and he seems to be getting poorer the longer it goes on.

I think it was Kiryienka. Three Sky right up the front still.

Ah you're right I think. I saw #6 being dropped but that's Pate not Nieve (#5)

What's this about Arthur being out?

Never mind Nieve, is Lopez even in this race? Apologies if he isn't but I don't recall hearing him mentioned even once. Presumably he's done "loads of work before the televised coverage starts".

Every morning they use something like this to decide the days tactics

His main job so far seems to be keeping J-Rod company as they roll in behind the peloton each day.

Plenty of teams seem to want a hard race. That's a great sign.

I heard it was a shoulder injury from the shoulder vs iPad holding spectator on stage 3, and he can't get out of the saddle.

Got hit on the shoulder by a spectators iPad on one of the GB stages. Couldn't get out of the saddle for a few days

That will be it then. I just head 'camera' and filled in my own story.

So De Marchi is solo (my bad) with 1min on Jan Bak and Kadri (Jan Bak has just distanced him though as he wasn't pulling his weight). Mollard and another Cofidis are another 30secs behind then you have the peloton.

Ah you're right I think. I saw #6 being dropped but that's Pate not Nieve (#5)

Ah, Danny Pate picked because he showed good form at the Tour of California according to Sir Dave Brailsford.

Another rider I have no idea why he is on the team overall let alone the Tour team.

Pate is not a climbing domestique. He will have done his work earlier in the stage.

They mentioned this in one of the podcasts. He was picked to ride on the front all day if or when Froome was in yellow. They said Pate himself admits that he wouldn't be picked to support a Porte lead team.

For Porte's sake I'm hoping that Sky are gambling that G and Nieve are enough to help Porte for now as there's little requirement for a train to chase down an attack from Valverde etc and they're simply resting the remainder of the team for the final week before really pushing the pace. Can't see it though...
  • Isn't Pate's main quality that he isn't Wiggins?
