I have no love for him, he's never a spectacular rider who lights up a race, but sometiomes think the vitriol directed towards him is a bit OTT.

He's a constantly referenced for offending weazle, ok he goes up the road a bit, so what, so did scarponi, cunego and Di Luca, where are their fans?

What are you trying to say about Cunego?

I've been watching Euro Sport for 5 minutes. Ok. I get it. Its hot. NOW STOP TELLING ME THE DAMN TEMPERATURE!

Has Carlton mentioned melting tarmac yet - I caught the highlights last night and he mentioned it 4 times within the opening 5 minutes, drove me nuts.

I'm afraid so. Riders abandoning distracted him briefly but we're now back on topic. Its Hot.

No, I just did a scan of the startlists on Wikipedia as the thought had already crossed my mind.

Well I've only ever been to Ireland three times, so it's unlikely.

    Serious or sarcastic?

Being Tasmanian it is unlikely he is used to such extreme heat.

Serious, but I could be wildly wrong. Just going on how poorly he coped with that hot stage in the Dauphine.

Apparently the descending side of the first climb today is called the Col De Porte

Col de Porte has been 18 times on the route of the Tour de France, as far back as in 1907 (Emile Georget first at the top) but its downhill became famous during the 1977 Critérium du Dauphiné when Bernard Hinault went off the cliff, was about to pull out, went back on his bike with the help of DS Cyrille Guimard and eventually won at La Bastille in Grenoble.

I can read them off Wiki: Hamilton (Phonak), Mayo (Euskaltel), Petacchi (Fassa B), Heras (Liberty S), Backstedt (Alessio), McGee (FdJ), Cipollini (Domina V)

Start of the Palaquit, 1m04 the break, it is a nasty hot dusty climb up to Quaix, I suspect we'll see some immediate casualties.

It was actually on the ueber steep Bastille that Hinault wanted to pull out, the climb is 25 degrees in places although only 200 meters climbing.

The Col de Porte is a regular on the Crit de Daupine.
