NBC just reported that Alberto Contador has a broken tibia and will need surgery. Damn, tough loss.

Yeah lots of people reporting this also now.

Must have been very painful time riding on that.

    BshHJccCIAAp7YK.jpg:large

Best case recovery time for surgery on a tibia? Sounds career threatening.

How long it takes to return to daily activities varies with different types of fractures. Some tibial shaft fractures heal within 4 months, yet many may take 6 months or longer to heal. This is particularly true with open fractures and fractures in patients who are less healthy.

Bert's legs look lovely on the bike. Off the bike not so much.

Once again Fat Face Fugslang says something stupid.

    @MikeKaltoft 12m
Fuglsang: "Contador took a lot of risks on a descent that had bad tarmac and was wet. He was riding 10-15 km/h faster than me"

WTF does Contador need to take risks 100km out

Not the only rider saying Contador took risks tbh.

VDB also said he was descending riskily and that the crash happened when he was trying to sprint past him for position.

    ---

Broken tibia is really horrible though. won't see Contador till next year now. Hope he's able to make a full recovery.

Fuglsang just said Contador took a huge risk on the descent he crashed on passing several riders on parts he shouldn't have.

Didn't Pantani have a tibia and femur break and he spent 1996 in physio before getting back to racing in 1997? Hopefully Contador will be back quicker than that.

    DD.

Contador's shouldn't be that bad, he's walking around on it, was riding for miles on it too.

You need to watch more racing.

How many Grand Tours or races even has Contador abandoned? Hint: Your hand will have too many digits unless you are a descendant of Anne Boleyn.

He's a massive fan of Shakespeare and he's telling Vino where to get off.

Really about his bambino I would think.

Cr*p celebration. Not as bad as Sastre's though.

    When did I write 'abondon'?

I think most rider's stats of abandoning are pretty limited..

He blamed the crash for his poor show in the Tour in which Evans won, he went on his arse as well last year when he thought he could teach Froome how to descend nearly taking the yellow jersey down with him.

And now it seems he was reckless and took risks on the dangerous descent..

If he is not in the Vuelta then it will be disaster or disasters. That is too much to countenance right now.

By the comments about Froome's withdrawal does this now mean AC is a pussy and a bad bike handler also? I don't think he is or Froome. So may medical experts on here also psychologists.

Surely he could have ridden with that ? Hope all crashed riders recover well, it is their livelihood.

Surely it can't be that bad if he's walking on it.

Tiago Machado finished the stage but outside the time limit. Chapeau! Brave, brave effort after his crash.*

+1 ...but we shall see. 'Broken his leg' always sounds a bit cartoony, it wasn't in half, and he was keen enough to get back on the bike, and he did.

Also, it's not really his livelihood, he's got enough money to last a lifetime if he retired right now. It's only the non big-names that really could consider it a livelihood.

Contador breaks Tibia, tries to ride, Hero. Froome breaks wrist, rides on it, crashes, pussy.

Contador's second bike WAS broken because it had fallen off the Tinkoff team car early in stage, BUT he never used it.

Odd then, that on the TV coverage it seems that they waited until after his crash to put it in the boot...

A damage limitation exercise, I would think.

OK OK OK, before this goes any further I think we need a convenient name for this. Bikegate? Framegate?
