Canyon Endurace CF

Thanks redscouse , how do you find the riding position are you not hunched up with the very short TT that the Endurace has? Are you saying that even with you buying an L you still have the seat post nearly fully inserted?0
-
right...plodder i got this completely WRONG...just looking back through my order online as i'm at work. I initially ordered an L and then subsequently changed it to an XL...really sorry to confuse you...the XL is great to ride slightly more hunched than my spesh it has narrower bars which i prefer and as you say the TT is longer than the endurace I am 6'3 and about 13 stone. the seat post in the XL is inserted to about 5-10 mm from the max insertion so nearly as low as you can get.
if you are in the brighton area you are welcome to come and sit on it and get a feel for the size...sorry about the confusion I know this is pretty stressful getting the size right. alternatively canyon had bikes at the london bike show last year that you could ride on a test track there you could ring and see if the endurace will be there this yearriding a canyon endurace

Redscouse, thanks very much for the info and your time, you had me a bit confused but happier now I know someone of my size albeit with slightly longer legs has gone for xl. It's either Xl or nothing for me. I am about 300 miles from you but my son lives down in Brighton and may be coming to see him to do an mountain bike sportive at the end of February. If I'm still dithering by then I will give you a shout.
Thanks once again for your time, much appreciated.0 -
Plodder73 wrote:Is the seatpost unable to be inserted further than that or is that just recommended insertion point? Does the leaf design stop insertion past that point? I need about another 10mm or so, is this going to be possible?
As I say the L isn't an option for me, any help gratefully received.
Seat post can be inserted past minimum point, but this is not recommended.
It looks like Plodder73 is in the same situation as me. I took the decision to change size M for S in order to use the seat post at a proper (recommended) height.
@Plodder73 - you can try comparing the sizes as I did, using:
http://gearinches.com/blog/misc/bike-ge ... comparator
My conclusion was that Canyon shall take into account the minimum seat post height (155mm) when recommends a frame size.0 -
Thank you, how far can it go past maximum insertion, what are the possible problems with doing this, cracked frame?0

Have you changed your yet, looking at the picture of you on the medium, it looks good to me. You are going to end up with a lower front end and a very short top tube with the small. How do you return it, do you have to pay for the return?0 -
I don't know what can happen if you go past recommended insertion. I can assure you that seat post is still round 2-3 cm above limit, but Canyon does not recommend to use like that. Imagine that I was telling them that I felt uncomfortable and they offered a normal seat post instead. Finally, I wanted to exchange to S size and they agreed.
In the picture, I think my hips are not leveled. I didn't want to use the seat post at a position higher then the minimum, so I set it exactly to allowed limit. The supreme test for me was to see if I reach the pedal with the heel while sitting on saddle: I got to move the hips
I packed the bicycle yesterday and today it was taken by UPS. Next week I'll receive S version. I'm going to end with a lower front end (15mm) and a shorter top tube (just 9mm). But I'll be allowed to move the saddle up and down
I didn't pay for the return, I've asked them to organize it and I just printed the UPS label on the box. Simple as that.0 -
I am inbetween a small and medium
Would be interested in how the small feels

This is yours truly on the cf 8.0. Size is L
I'm sorry if the semi-nudity offends anyone :P
I figured i'd upload how i look on the bike and my measurements for those considering what size to go for.
My measurements:
187 lenght
inseam 89-90,5(depends on day and amount of balls)
sternal notch 152, torso lenght ~62
arm lenght 68-ish
shoulders 40-42ish
70 kg
Having the seat post at around "3" plenty to give up and down.
They shipped it with the 175 cranks which i'm not so happy about, when i ordered it said 172.5... gonna have a talk with them tomorrow i think.
Only ridden it on rollers i can say it rolls like a train, very stable and from what i can tell low rolling resistance.
The cassette they put on is very ridicolous though and will have to be replaced, compact cranks AND an 11-32 cassette? I will probably never use past the 25- on that cassette coming from 53/39 12/27.
The bike was a bit heavier than expected, a fair amount so, about 8.0 kg without pedals(!) margin +-100grams0 -
Did anyone's Endurace CF8 (105 groupset) come with the lever spacers to adjust reach?
I don't seem to have them fitted to the lever/shifter, and didn't see any in the box. If not, are they available anywhere?0 -

Perhaps the insertion line is constrained by leaving sufficient unrestricted seatpost to provide movement for shock absorption - in which case it might be safe to use higher up but equally it could be that the seatpost lay-up is designed to deal with clamping loads in that range and not further up where it's only designed to provide flex and support the rider.
I'd suggest asking Canyon's advice.
Worst case, switch to the standard VCLS seatpost which I'm pretty sure has a larger clampable range. It's a very nice seatpost too and you may even be able to get a small discount if you ask. Canyon can tell you if this is a sensible solution.0 -
I agree with Ai_1 - the post is probably a lot weaker past the marked range because of the leaf spring.
With regard to clamping loads - what is the correct torque setting to use when clamping the seat? I have been using 5NM but can't seem to find the specific torque written anywhere.
This page: https://www.canyon.com/en/supportcenter ... les_id=215 lists 5Nm, but it isn't specific to any frame/seat post. They show a different torque for the Speedmax CF frame though.0 -

It's written on the bottom length of the seat post deep inside the seat tube
I believe it can be tighten to a max torque of 7nm. https://www.canyon.com/en/supportcenter ... cles_id=700 -
Ah I thought the 7nm torque is how tight the bolt that is used to adjust the leaf spring (saddle angle) should be - it looks like it's both that and the seat post clamp.
Thanks!0 -

I remember it taking me a while to locate the figure for clamping the seatpost on my Canyon Ultimate but I don't think it was on the seatpost (nor should it be). Is it on the underside of the clamping collar or something like that? I think it was on the Ultimate. The 7Nm figure beside the bolt at the bottom of the VCLS 2.0 seatpost only refers to the clamping bolt.
The tech support doc that Fraggy linked to shows 7nm for the seat post:
"Tighten the seat post clamp to a maximum torque of 7 Nm. You should not be able to turn the saddle. Wipe off any excess carbon paste."0 -
Just set my CF 8.0 up today - Love it! I'm only 5'4" and can recommend the XS frame, fits brilliantly, especially with the 165mm cranks and tiny 380mm bar!
Anyone else know where to get the STI spaces for my tiny little hands?0 -
The newer 105s have an allen bolt under the hood rather than the spacers. I was trying to find them before, and then came across the correct dealer manual for the shifters:
http://si.shimano.com/php/download.php? ... 03-ENG.pdf
It's on page 140 -
Does anyone else think that the gap from the forks to the headset is on the large side, concerned that moisture will get into the bearings.0

Hi All, i'm having sleepless nights trying to figure out what size i am, can any Canyon owners who are a similar size offer any advice at all...? I'm 83cm inseam and 183cm (bang on 6 ft) height. Canyon online size guide tells me M, Canyon guys on the phone say L. Currently riding a 57 Bianchi C2C via nirone 7. My gut tells me L as i want something a little bigger than my current bike, but i don't want a larger bike to feel sluggish. I've matched up the Geometry chart of the M with my current bike and it's v similar.
I guess this returns me to the eternal debate of size up or down, but if anyone has any specific insight on how this topic translates to Canyon specifically that would be really helpful.
I know destined i'm to be punished as i'm not buying from a LBS but i can't see past the spec and reviews.
Also has anyone bought, returned and exchanged. Is this an easy process?
All thoughts gratefully received.0 -
Based on your inseam I'd say M is likely to be perfect. Your height is probably more towards the L in terms of getting the right reach but you can always get a slightly longer stem. If you're happy with your current bike the safe option would be to go with the size that gives the closest match in terms of reach and saddle/bar drop.
P.S.
Bear in mind the stem is not standard size so less straightforward to change than normal (i.e. you can't go into most LBS and grab a 1.25" stem for <€20). But you should be able to make a pretty accurate selection when you purchase by comparing the length of your existing bike.0 -
@Ai_1 thanks for the feedback. My issue is that i feel like my current bike is a touch too small for me (i bought it second hand) and had always planned on sizing up a little when i got a new one.0

What length stem do you have fitted to your existing bike? When you say you want to size up is this because you feel to cramped or is the saddle to bar drop is to much? Do you what a longer TT, HT, reach, wheelbase?0 -
Daniel, I am 6 feet and half inch, inseam I think was 85cm. The large is perfect for me. My first bike had a fault and I had to return it to canyon for a replacement. It was very easy, but repackaging the bike was tricky. If you are in the Tyne and Wear area your welcome to try mine before u order.0
-
Same as the fella above - I'm 6ft and a half, 85cm inseam, have got a size L Ultimate and it's perfect. I have the stem slammed with the 4mm spacer instead of the standard Acros iLock one and I've got quite a big saddle to bar drop.0
-
Hi all, so i spent the evening measuring up my current bike and think i'm right with an Endurace CF M with the option to exchange the stem, so have pulled the trigger. Looking forward to it arriving.
Thanks for all of your advice, super helpful.0 -
I also had to send the bike back. Been advised by Canyon to go for a small being between S and XS by 1 cm inseam. Found out that with the S had no seat post showing so exchanged it for XS. Canyon UK been really helpful and changed it with no probs. For the ones that have to do the same, Canyon sends a guide in how to pack it back in the box but is useless since it is for an older way of packaging. Best for doing this is searching for unboxing canyon ultimate cf in youtube and watch and pause. Easy and perfect, just as it arrived.0

Bump...
Just purchased my first Canyon bike and looking for reassurance! It's an Endurace CF 8.0 that was in stock. Can anyone give me a rough guesstimate on delivery time (factoring in everything going smoothly)? Sorry, but another question, what do current owners think of the DT Swiss R24's? Would anyone swap them out for say Fulcrum 3's or is it worth saving £££ for a more expensive wheelset in future? Household of two under threes doesn't provide me with a big budget these days! Cheers0 -
My CF SL took 10 days inc weekend from placing order to delivery.0

I have the R23 and think they are ok. quite loud freehub so can be a bit annoying, but I don't mind it now as if I coast other cyclists can hear me. They are a lot louder than the Mavic Ksyriums I had on my older bike.
Save the money for now. The rims work well and some point get something nice for the summer. Im planning to get a set or Reynolds or 303 for all round use once I hit my desired weight.N2 - SW1
