Is it an insect trap of sorts? The liquid (sweet nectar?) attracts bugs and the shape stops them escaping?

    Sherlock Holmes time.

There are versions designed to be dropped. What would happen if this was dropped? It would smash and the liquid would come out.

Why would we want the liquid to come out? Old School water bomb?

Does something cause the liquid to come out of this without it being dropped? Hit by something perhaps?

its a fire bomb i think, have seen something similar on TV, they are full of water or a chemical and you throw them into the fire.

Is it a primitive sprinkler system to put out fires?

edit. I see that simonhead is also on the same track, and first. Didn't see this due to pc/bikeradar messing me about.

Yup.... It's an early 1900's fire "grenade."

    Used for putting out fires.

The liquid is Carbon Tetrachloride which, when released, would consume all of the oxygen in a room and hopefully put the fire out.

It was triggered by a fuseable link which, when it melted would trigger a spring loaded arm to break the glass, thus releasing the liquid.

    Clever shoot eh.

Well done to Simonhead and Capt.Slog...

I'll let you decide who's next up!!
