Is it to measure heat? i'e, the prongs move at a certain temp and touch?

    or

    To measure vibration?

    Nothing close.

It's nothing very sophisticated, in fact this is my home-made version of a commercial one (tight as a duck's arse as usual).

The centre 'prong' is a hollow tube.

Is it used to hold a string or thread reel whilst tying something like fishing flies? Or other arty-ness?

    Yes.

It's a bobbin holder and it's used for flytying.

    looks like this in practice....

and the fine nozzle bit that the silk comes through allows you to get the thread in the right place on the hook, and keeps things under tension when you need to let go...

yes i could, but I'm not going to. :D anyway, it's a bit late for mayflys isn't it?

I don't fish very much these days. At my previous job I used to work not too far from the river. I often used to fish at lunchtimes, driving there eating a sandwich, walk to the river bank whilst tying a fly on, spot of fishing then back to work. AND used to return in the evening somedays before i went home.

It all had to stop when i changed jobs :( Not enough time to go and too far to to drive after being at work all day. But happy days.

The Mayfly's were wishful thinking that I might have some time in spring. The midges are perennial and the spiders fall from the Rhododendrons at a loch I know. I have tied a few but when you go to the local sportshop and they start at 55p ea with some local knowledge...it's pie in the sky now I have 2 screaming girls. Some great fishing here too - no dank puddles under a motorway flyover fishing for Carp with curry balls. Coarse fishing and fixies have one thing in common; both heinous crimes.
Oh, one fine day, the Sundridge, the Shakespeare and it's floating dry line will be re-united...

Where tf is that picture...oh, yes I forgot.

    It's a sheep feeding trough.

Close enough, we have a winner!

It's a CSO (combined sewer overflow) screen, it screens storm flow before it spills to a watercourse or storm network. This one is quite small and static ie non powered but bigger powered screens exist for higher spill volumes. Quite boring for some folk though and not exactly dinner party chat.

It is nautical but the cones do not help it run on tracks.

  • Is it for driving a vehicle on marshland? I forget the name but they replace the wheels and increase the footprint inordinately.
