Are those carbon deposits on the filaments?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0

not part of a dynamo/alternator is itI rode what you dug last summer0
-
Is it from an Italian sports car????~~~~~~Sustrans - Join the Movement~~~~~~0

Not off a car, Gazedy is heading in the right direction. But it does stand alone rather than a part of something. I'll post a picture of the back of it later once a few more guesses have come in, assuming none are right.0

The filaments dissipate heat? Does the unit rotate?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0
-
No, doesn't rotate. Also forgot to say that is most definitely not carbon.0
-
Is it a fossil jelly fish with a rubber cap on?0
-
Good guess, but no. Oh, do I need to add that it's not sheep related?0
-
Iron age shuttlecock?0
-
Starter for an old aeroplane engine?Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.0
-
So its something to do with cooling, it doesn't rotate, it's not a part of something else and it might be related to a dynamo.
Is it some form of projectile??~~~~~~Sustrans - Join the Movement~~~~~~0 -

No idea. A car/motorbike/quad bike/small petrol tool (chainsaw etc)
I thought it was some form of sacrificial anode for a boat when I first saw it.0 -
It looks like the heatsink/cooler from the rectifier of an old motorbike.
I'd say it was off a BSA or a Triumph,
edit just realised that the diode is in there!
The older I get, the better I was.0 -
I'd say that makes slog the winner, zener diode and heat sink off a 1968 Triumph 650. It dissipates energy from any overcharging as heat if I recall correctly.0

If you'd complained that you would have got it if you'd known I might have felt bad. But then again, maybe not.
They do look quite cool and a bit Flash Gordon when fitted on the bike. I really should finish the bike.0 -
Gosh. I've got one!
I'll have a look around my attic and shed and put a piccy up tomorrow.
The older I get, the better I was.0 -
There you go.

measuring the roundness of something. presume its not for listening?0
-
I presume it is for listening to the naughty boys in the basement playing marbles (or a heartbeat?).seanoconn - gruagach craic!0

I have no idea, but it reminded me of a lovely thing I should use if I ever win this again.0

Does it go at the top of a machine to make a tiny version of Frankensteins monster with sparks going across it? Part of a Van de Graaf generator?
No, can't be either of them.0 -
Nothing anywhere close yet. I can tell you it's a tool of sorts, don't forget the scale, that is a bottle top behind it!
The older I get, the better I was.0
