Anyone else who thought OGE would beat Colombia by more than that?

52.7kph average. It looked well drilled but not unbeatable. It depends how slippy the road becomes.

    Really amazing crowds!

Anton dropped after only 6 mins... must be ill.

Gusev just went straight into a barrier. But he's managed to bet back in the line.

Katusha can take a quick trip over to Wales tomorrow, we have a cornering session on at the kids coaching this week.

Katusha were even slower than FDJ at the first time check. Oh dear.

Tinkoff haven't got the hang of this 5th rider thing have they? Looked like a bunch sprint!

Movistar 26 seconds down on Orica at the first check. If that's down to the road conditions then Orica may already have this sewn up.

You can see why most riders hate this test... complete and utter eyeballs out, and if you get dropped feeling like a failure in front of your team

Lotto really struggling. You'd think a team of Belgian rouleurs would be in their element in these conditions.

Wow... slow for Purito... not good.

I wonder how much benefit a TT bike is on this course in these conditions?

It's always amazing how casually teams treat TTT's.

    Katusha are 5th. Of 5.

This weather blows. TTTs blow. This has nothing to do with talent.

Nairo may have some time to make up after this, seems quite a technical course.

The Giro is hardly known for great weather.

Rain on the continent has so much more panache though ;)

So Nairo has 38 secs on JRod and Roche/Majka have another 32 in their favour.

Quintana gains 38 seconds on Rodriguez. About what I expected. Quintana looks pretty strong though.

Yeah, it falls as pretty white crystalline flakes and cancels stages
