I think a fully fit Dowsett should beat Dennis. I just hope he's fully over the broken collarbone.
  • Slightly OT, but given he posts here more than anywhere else, "our man" Xavier Disley has a page in this month's procycling

That's good. His analysis has been enlightening. Shame I left my unread copy on my parents kitchen table.

Given the increase in speed that the new bikes/positions allow and the distance all the male competitors have surpassed Sosenka's 'old' record by, you've got to hand it to Leontien van Moorsel on her women's record. Even with all the new tech and aero advantages, Sarah Storey was still some way off.

Tickets are £49, £39 and £29 for the Wiggo hour attempt. I'm assuming the £29 tickets are in the toilet mind.

Maybe you get a reduction after the first hour

Do you pay on the door? Maybe which of the three prices are charged is dependent on how bothered he is on the day

    :D

You probably can pay on the door but they are for sale this friday online, so I doubt any of them will be left.
  • Saw on SSN it will be live on Sky, but can I assume it will be on the UCIs YouTube channel again?

£49 for a ticket? Even £29 seems steep.
Is there a support act? Colin Lynch perhaps? Or Paul Weller? Or The Smiths reformed?
I know some places in Eastern Europe where you can get a lot more for an hour for £49.

When was the last time you bought tickets to something?

I figured after that Hour Record it won't be attempted for a while and I missed the Dowsett one I'd booked.

There are a few hours racing before hand.

If you can find them at that price I'll have two.

I guess (hope) Wiggo's attempt will herald one by Cancellara or T Martin. In fact I am surprised that he is throwing down the gauntlet first or is it because he want's to start training for the Olympics after all the successes in the classics.
Can Cancellara or Martin book an attempt for the 8th of June?

come off it people moan all the time about how expensive Revolution tickets are at Lee Valley and they didnt cost £49 for a whole evenings track session, Dowsetts hour is only £11, Wiggo might be more popular but £49 popular, for just the hour ??

its simply going to be people who want to be able to turn round and boast they were there, he hasnt alone made cycling so popular. Ill watch it on youtube as no doubt Sky will stuff it on Sky Sports or do something daft and rename it the Sky Wiggo channel so none of the Virgin media/BT sport get it either.

Yeah its just silly pricing but then you will get people who will pay it and more. In London you can put the price at whatever and there will be people that will pay it.

I definitely wont go. I wonder who makes money from the ticket sales? 250k or so to split round.

A snail farm, maybe. £49 would get you about about 0.07 of an acre. http://www.westernmorningnews.co.uk/Sta ... story.html

With the best will in the world, I wouldn't pay anything to see someone attempt the hour record.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.
