Surprised he got so close, tbh. Not sure if I'm being unfair though.

I may have posted this elsewhere, but I would have liked to have seen Evans set a mark

Being reported that she just missed it, but got Brit, masters and C5 record
  • She doesn't beat the record of 46.065km but gets a respectable 45.502km.

    Totally packed velodrome. Crazy.

    She looks totally smoked.

I saw him at our club dinner and he was still very much up for it.

Interestingly the velodrome was about half full last night, this would have been the night Dowsett did the record. I think it was quite well booked up but a lot of people thought the tickets were transferring to when he rescheduled it so never turned up! They actually put on a very good show and there was Derby paced racing so I was happy to see that.

I was trying to find an old thread on here about the nocturne but the search function seems to have died for anything before 2015. Archibald crashed in the Nocturne and a comment was made about her bike handling, I can now see why, last night she was darting all over the place without looking and ended up coming a cropper. I could see it happening from the start of the race. Not what you would expect from someone who rides at international level in the team persuit!

Considering there was no record on the books before she rode, setting the new C5 Women's Para record was always gonna be a slam dunk.

Think the punchline centred around one of these:

cant say I noticed in the Saturday races that happening, usual thing about someone crashing once and being given that bike handling issue reputation ala Froomecat :) actually thought Laura was closest to wiping out in one race, though it was the Hoy future stars girls 6 lap dash that had the worst crash.

but wow Sarahs attempt, absolutely gave it everything, cant fault it, she was glued to that black line, its definitely alot tougher than it looks.

one thing I did think is they need to start translating time gaps into distance gaps, as they kept quoting the time gap ie +30 seconds, but not really saying if that was on target or what that really meant, so yes you can sit there and go ok 19-20s laps, gap of 40 seconds,ok shes about 500m down, which as it turned out wasnt a bad estimate on my part, but I wasnt sure if the time gap was expecting to narrow if you maintained the set pace rather than as weve seen in nearly all of them so far first half alot quicker than the second half.

So regardless of aerodynamic advantage from the bike that Boardman had, his pacing was superb.

Boardman's 1996 hour vs. all the current ones:

    Great stuff, cheers.

  • No probs - highlights quite what the difference is between Boardman and the current crop doesn't it! Interestingly you can see him surge a couple of times (27km, 36km & 50km) before finally committing with 2km to go and going bananas

Impressive he had enough left in the tank to get successively faster over that last block of laps! Looks like all the others bar Voigt are slowing towards the end.
