25 Swiss Francs to see Rohan Dennis, with a couple of hours of junior exhibition races beforehand if you wanted. The place was about 90% full. That was cheap for Switzerland, you can't get into a cinema for much less than 30CHF. Great atmosphere, 25 well spent in my opinion.0

I might tune in from time to time and see how it's going but that's about it. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way or pay to be there.0 -
I'm assuming we get a full refund if he fails? You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.

Is there a support act? Colin Lynch perhaps? Or Paul Weller? Or The Smiths reformed?
I know some places in Eastern Europe where you can get a lot more for an hour for £49.

So less actual racing for your money? Especially so assuming the Wiggins effort will include some racing before/after. Compare it with football or rugby and , while it could be less it's really not so bad.

I got the early email yesterday and could have bought a few tickets at £49 as I don't live too far from the track. Did think about taking a mate etc but when I sat back and thought about it properly, £100 is a bit steep for 2 people just to watch someone go round in a circle for 60 minutes, Wiggins or not. I thought of the bike bits or clothing I could buy with that, which would last me longer.
Once i found out it was on Sky that put the final nail in the coffin for me.0 -
£50?
The money we (or certainly I) spend on a tyre that lasts a few races? Get over it guys, its hardly ridiculous is it, go and see how much it costs to watch a premier league football match of any reasonable quality...
I'll be trying to buy a few for sure.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -

There is the added angle of it being a far more unique event though. For £29 I could go see Celtic play whoever in a terrible approximation of godawful sport, or instead watch the hour record being knocked out the park. Or for £49 I could go to Cheltenham for the races, but I can do that any year and besides, I can see some of those same horses on the odd occasion they rock up at Musselburgh for Cheltenham trials day.
I agree the prices are a little on the steep side, but they certainly wouldn't be enough to put me off going along if I lived in London - and I'm far from being a fan of The Cycling Sir.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -
For those that want them, the presale thing seems to be daft. I just ordered tickets with no presale access code, just selected tickets and paid for them.
It'll be interesting how they go. Sarah Storeys attempt didn't sell out and Alex Dowsetts doesn't seem to be. My guess is that Wiggos will quite easily. I note there is no track centre access ... Full of corporate and VIP's I assume as I imagine it's widely anticipated to be a shoe in.2020/2021/2022 Metric Century Challenge Winner0 -
Yes it may not be a visual spectacle comparable to Rollerball or whatever but I'm glad I'm going.
It is a classic event - one of the purest in cycling and I'm sure I'll only ever go once in my life to see someone try it. I wish I'd been there for Boardman's "athletes record", so having missed that, a new chance to see a British cycling great go for such an iconic record seems a no brainer to me.
The current record is too low for a track and TT great like Wiggo to worry about so we really need Dowsett to pull a blinder and put Wiggo under some real pressure following his attempt on 2nd May.CarbonClem wrote:For those that want them, the presale thing seems to be daft. In for a penny, in for a (49) pound. Just ordered without any Sky details. Seem to be a lot of tickets gone already.
The price is pretty steep, but it is a one off thing really, isn't it? I imagine it will be a pretty good atmosphere and a nice thing to be able to say "I was there" about.0 -

I hope people didn't pay a lot to go and watch "Jack's Hour"...the whole thing was truly awful.0

How are people buying already? If I go to the sky tickets cycling page it just has come back on Friday.0

The recent marks set by Jens, Brandle, Dennis do not feel world class (really only in the ball park of Boardmans record from 93 in a modern position) and of course it means people will attack those sorts of times. A real world class time will see record attempts drop off dramatically I'd say.You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.

Also begs the question why Boardmans 93 record was stripped away. Looks pretty standard to me:
The wafer-thin "fake" helmet will be saving him a few watts but I doubt he's doing anything there different enough from today's riders for this record to be chucked away. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.

£49 for upper tier, since when has the upper tier ever been the same price as lower tier tickets.0 -

I know I didn't pay anything like £49 for Boardmans last hour record tickets - but then again cycling wasn't so popular then.
I've got Dowsett tickets anyway - rude not to as it's fairly close and cheap. Wiggins would be a huge cost to get there and get tickets - and I'm not entirely sure he's going to break the distance that Dowsett hopefully does.0 -
