But you're also getting seriously close to finishing!

Agreed that fitting in Angels and Hunted on Friday is going to be a bit tricky, but that's when it'll have to be for me. I think I may be getting up early which will be a bit pants having done AVDP tonight.
Boardman Road Comp - OK, I went to Halfords
Tibia plateau fracture - the rehab continues!

Get in from work at 8am tomorrow having been up for 25hrs. Sleep, pick kids up from school, back out to work at 5.30pm. Only way I can fit it in tomorrow is to be up for 25 hrs, sleep for 4hrs, get on bike, up for another 20hrs. Doesn't look good. I'll be fighting all night too :(

Think about how good it'll be to know you overcame all that adversity!

just finished VDP totally brutal but everything is still on target, dreading tomorrows back to back "rides"

I have wondered if this is just a bit of fun or whether I ll gain any fitness or just get fatigued, any one done it before? and what happened?

I think I'm getting stronger as it goes on. It doesnt feel like it when I'm not on the turbo, but when I get on there - I'm getting my medals.

Er maybe I shouldnt have said that before tonights torture....
  • You guys are in better shape than I am. I did stage 7 today and never attempted 100%. My legs are so sore I am walking like an 80 year old man. I am attempting to finish at 90%.

Did VDP at 6 this morning, started at 100% but dropped to 95% about half way as I'm really feeling fatigued now. I'm never going to get the double sessions in tomorrow so I've decided to have a rest day like Jotko and tackle them on Saturday morning. I'm feeling a little saddle sore and need a break and the only way I would be able to get them in would be getting up at 4.30 so I think I'll pass on that idea! Desperately wanting to complete at 95-100% for the whole tour if I can.

I had to go to the dentist this morning and spend over an hour having crown preparation with loads of drilling poking around etc without an injection but I can honestly say I'd rather go through that again rather than an extra hour on the tour! The end is too close to give up now though.

I'd be interested to know what fitness gains I may be able to expect from all this pain as well if any veterans have any experiences they'd like to share from previous years? :)

This what I feel too, but ask me again on Sunday night

Though I think if I were in Naps position I wouldn't be saying this at all !

Cougie .. You shouldn't be able to ride VDP intervals 10% above the target line with a 160 heartbeat. You need your FTP adjusted. Seems like on your career page it's always been about the same level?

Aww Nap - say it aint so !

DW - I got the powermeter in November and tested my FTP at 214W and started the TR 40km tt plan pretty much straight after that. After a couple of road rides I bumped the FTP up to 219W and was going to use the Sufferfest Rubber Glove as a chance to retest.

Unfortunately something went wrong with the calibration I think as I tested lower than 219 -so I left it at that.

I'll retest when I recover from Sufferlandria - I'm a bit wary of tonights - I've run for an hour and now I'm doing my Tax Return....

What kind of area do you think my FTP lies in ?
  • That was unpleasant. A dark place was an appropriate place for me to be tonight.

Must say I am enjoying my visit to Couchlandria today - stopped off for a pint after work just to make sure I didn't get tempted to do a stage when I got home!

I will be in a very dark place at 7am tomorrow though...

I'm assuming your max HR is 190-200ish. If it's about 170-180 then ignore me. What is your max?

Sitting in the 150's for a 5 minute effort at 110-120% FTP seems low.

An uneducated guess would make me think that if your FTP was set 5-10% higher it's be about right.

Max Hr as tested (yonks ago) was 189. I used to be able to TT 10's at 170 - but the highest I've had since I restarted turboing is 168.

I'll nudge it up a bit and see if I can cope - ta !

    I hate you.
  • Just finished avdp. back at 100% FTP and felt good. Interestingly the last time I did it, not on trainer road,I covered 12.5 miles, today I did 16.8!! Shows the value of the live power reading.

Bloody worried about tomorrow and Saturday. Overdosing on recovery protein tonight.

Well, that's AVDP done at 90% and what a struggle it was. My whole body is starting to feel completely exhausted and one of my knees is in tatters. Really looking forward to the end now but dreading tomorrow TBH. I don't remember it being this tough last year (and I can't remember if it did me any good either, but I felt rather pleased with myself - the poster is now on my wall, as will this year's be!)
    Cheers,

    Just done stage 7;

    http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/ride ... est-angels

    http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/ride ... the-hunted

Blew up in the last interval of angels and had to knock it back 5%. Felt pretty bad at the beginning of the hunted then blew three quarters of the way through the long interval, went down to 97% but managed to finish pretty strong.

On the whole not feeling to bad. Still gonna try and finish Saturday then out for the club run Sunday.

    Hi,

Hope everyone is feel up for today's stage, which everyone your are up to.

I have just been having look at a few peoples career pages on trainer road and have noticed that "The Tour of Sufferlandria" is noted under challenges on people career page.

However, if I look at mine it's note there? Can some take a look at my career page and see if they can see it please?

    http://www.trainerroad.com/career/ajfoggy

It's all being tracked on the tour of sufferlandria page, just want to make sure i'm being track properly.

Ah, yes the year would give it away........ Well hopefully it will be there in a couple of days :-) I'm feeling much better now stage 7 is out of the way, although I have looked at each stage and thought "hmmm, it doesn't look too bad". Wrong every time :-)
  • Another 27 dropped from the pack. Today really is the day of reckoning. Be very surprised if anyone has commited to Stages 1-7 and then ends up not finishing the weekend now.

Angels has always absolutely killed me when I’ve done it in isolation so bloody worried about what kind of state I’ll be in later.
Also quite keen to get 8+9 done tomorrow as will be nursing a massive hangover on Sunday after watching Jack Nowell tear the frogs apart in the rugby and doubt Violator will make me feel much better.

That would be 4 videos in about 16 hours which could be a giant error.

    Ooooof.

    Angels + Hunted + Blender + Violator = 5hrs

    Prob burn about ~3000 calories

That sounds a bit mental in 16hrs to me, especially in the state we are all in!

A & H was super hard but given the weather down here, prob easier than an outside ride.

of course you can do those SF in 16hrs but at what effort?
