I don't think it's intended to be ridden as an actual test though, if that's what you're asking. It's simply one of the stages isn't it? - or that's my understanding.
I've never ridden this ride before. Is it identified within the software as an FTP test? ie, does TR ask you if you wish to adjust your FTP at the end of the ride? It does this with the actual TR tests, but presumably they have some sort of internal flag set to bring that dialogue box up, I don't know if this one does.
Anyway, I didn't read anything on any of the tour documentation which says ride this as an FTP test, it's simply a workout to be followed at the target level, as far as I can see.

And the % is just what the workout is set out, you can only do what you can do. So if the sprint is at 600w and you are giving it your best and doing 500w then so be it.

Yes, Rubber Glove does offer to alter your FTP based on the 20 minute interval.0 -
MarkP80 wrote:The 20 min interval will be set at the level which corresponds to your current FTP. If you don't ride the interval above the target then your FTP will stay the same.

Anyone in the UK think I have calculated these timings correctly. I'm just trying to plan when I can do each stage:
TIMES SHOWN ARE GMT TIMES.
Hope that makes sense? Do you need to ride the two stage days back-to-back?0 -
I did it last year at 90%, it was brutal. My FTP is higher and my form is worse this year so it is going to be gruesome.
Definitely make sure you get the first stage in ASAP, that way you can have a rest day if needed.
Life tends to get in the way as well so good to have that in the bag....strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

Foggy I know the Friday start makes sense.
Are you saying the last stage needs to be completed by 10am our time on the Monday ?0 -

At the bottom of this page: http://www.trainerroad.com/tour-of-sufferlandria
It states:
Each tour day is active while it's that day anywhere in the world. It starts at 12am Kiritimati time (UTC+14) and ends at 12 midnight American Samoa time (UTC-11). This makes each tour day last 50 hours and days overlap. Local time is irrelevant. Rides must be completed and uploaded to our servers during this 50 hour window to be eligible to win prizes
So if i'm right we have from 00:00 Kiritimati time on any given date (which is 10:00 the day prior in GMT) through until 23:59:59 American Samoa time (which is 11:00 the day after in GMT)
They have stated 50 hours, but is it actually 49 hours???
My head hurts! And I haven't even started riding yet :-)
BTW don't take my word for this I may have it wrong, in which case i'll fail even if I complete all the rides, but I think i'm right.0 -
Ah yes that makes sense - Samoa is 11 hours behind us - so it will need to be done on the morning of Monday to register.0

Based on this, is a day off in the middle the best plan? I may try that approach...Canyon AL Ultimate 9.00 -

From the Tour FB feed:
Announcement from Sufferlandrian Ministry of Dispelling Any Notions of Taking it Easy.
For those wondering about stages 5 and 7:
- Yes, they are horrible
- Yes, you have to do the videos in the order given
- No, you can't take a break between videos. DOES IT SAY EXTRA SHOT + TAKE A BREAK + THE WRETCHED? Didn't think so.0 -
Damn they're evil.0

Ive decided to do my first cat 4 race on Saturday 8th of February so have been thinking today if I'd be better of just continuing doing what I'm doing, usually two threshold workouts, a recovery ride if time permits then club run on a Sunday or still have a crack at the tour maybe a recovery ride mid week then first race Saturday. What do you think?0
-
Been trying out this in preparation for the ToS:
http://www.onacademy.co.uk/2-1-1-recovery
Basically start sipping it down during the warm down and have been blown away with how much better I feel the next day. Pretty pricey though and really need the water to be really cold otherwise it is pretty sweet for my tastes.0 -
Not long to go now - looking forward to this (I think)
I am gonna do it at 90% same as last year, although my last FTP test was just before clocks changed in Oct when I was doing 100+ commuting miles so I expect 90% is actually pretty much where I am in reality. i expect it to hurt.
Cant say I am massively confident but I think if I can get the first 3 nailed over the weekend I should have a good chance of keeping it going.
Day 7 will be utterly horrific....strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847
trainerroad - http://www.trainerroad.com/career/joeh0 -
I'll be doing Rubber Glove as an FTP test - I think its about 8 weeks since I did my last proper one.
I intend to try it at 100% to begin with - if I have to turn it down - so be it.
Grunter Von Agony might not be pleased with me though.
Day 7 - whats Day 7 ? I don't think I want to know actually.. Ignorance is bliss.0 -

Angels + The Hunted.
Doing anything after that last interval of Angels (other than throwing up) is gonna be tricky....strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

I've had a very weird urge to absolutely blitz Rubber Glove. I had been apprehensive about the whole thing, but having done Revolver the other night and not feeling too bad the next day, I figure best to tackle this head on, fight fire with fire, and various other motivational metaphors..All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

I am 'working' from home tomorrow morning will aim to bag rubber glove at the first available opportunity - a 10.01am kick off is the plan.
My head is saying go with 90% FTP and will ride it like a standard workout rather than a stem chewing FTP test - it's a marathon not a sprint (and other de-motivational metaphors!!!). We shall see....strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

I'm gona forget you said that .. I know it's just the sanity talking.
Lucky you on getting those extra few hours though. I'm gona be doing an evening one. Im really looking forward to eating an extra thousand calories a day, and I'll probably be sleeping lots at the weekends. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Oh bloody hell. Will be tackling stage 1 this time tomorrow with a hangover which isn’t a great way to begin things. Have invested in loads of protein recovery stuff to help the legs fix themselves between stages. It’s the long ones I’m concerned about like ISLAGIATT as never done a sufferfest longer than Angels which is just under an hour.
Hoping to come out the other side with the power of Wiggo circa 2012, although will take any small improvement.
Stay strong team.

After the talk of being sensible I decided to ride it as a proper FTP test as my last one was end October.
FTP came out at 229W giving 3.18W/kg (on powertap)
I have lost 10 watts (and gained 5 lbs) over the winter - not surprising as I have hardly cycled.
Hopefully the TOS will help me boost that back up!
Had a sketchy moment as I forgot to plug laptop in and it turned itself off - thankfully this was when the nice lady was making omelettes so it didn't matter!
Bring on stage 2...strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

Good work ! Should we set up a Bikeradar ToS team for this ? That way there can be no slacking off ?0
