    Ok new question.

Since the beginning of the UCI Pro Tour/World Tour, which five teams have topped the rankings? (Ignore changing team names - that's one team)

    Using current team names -
    1. Saxo (4) - inc CSC
    2. Movistar (2) - inc Caisse d'Epargne
    3. Sky (1)
    4. OPQS (1)
    5. Astana (1)

But 3 to 5 are a guess on count back!

    Cheers. Here's another to try...

Quickstep/ OPQS have been a constant presence in the TdF for the past 10 years. In that time 5 nationalities have been represented as the leader (with the #1 jersey number) but can you name the riders?

What do the following riders have in common and who's the odd one out?

    Bobet
    Kubler
    Merckx
    Zoetemelk
    LeMond
    Armstrong

Apart from Kubler they've all stood at least 4 times on the TdF podium; don't think that's what you mean though...

    My guess would be:
    Belgian - Boonen
    British - Cavendish
Italian - Bettini (or maybe Cataldo)
    American - Leipheimer
Spanish - did Garate ride for them?

Boonen - check, Cav - check, Bettini - check, Leipheimer - check; but there are 7 in all & more than one Belgian on the list!

You people never cease to amaze me with your knowledge.

Both may well be correct, but they aren't what I'm after.

The TDF or more specifically the Yellow Jersey is the connection - but why?

Yeah, I looked at the answers myself. I missed a fairly obvious one.

    Devolder?
  • And Virenque? Was he still riding 10 years ago?

Classy, and spot on to boot.
  • Is Devolder correct or do we still need to guess another Belgian?

Devolder is correct; leader in 2008.

All have refused to wear a Yellow Jersey.

Bobet is the odd won out, declining to wear a jersey made of artificial fibres, the others were due to the withdrawal of the 'rightful' holder.

    So Wikipedia sez....

Did Contador wear the jersey the day after Rasmussen was withdrawn?

    No.

Nor should he have. You only put it on after you're presented with it.

Rasmussen may have packed his bags but he goes on the finish list as "DNS" for the next stage.

as opposed to DNF for the previous stage.

    When did LeMond refuse?

(I'm asking as I can't recall it, not that I think you're wrong)

Another Tour de France question. Well two questions.

Question 1: What was unique about the podium in 1989?

Question 2: What was unique about the podiums in 1979 and 2001? (Obviously it wasn't actually unique as it happened twice)

Q1. Only year that the podium consisted of previous winners - LeMond, Fignon & Delgado.

Sorensen was in yellow and crashed and broke his collarbone in the team time trial. I think LeMond then refused it but don't remember for certain.
