No, your problem no IS the clueing.
My rider is both current and well known.

My clue is probably deficient, being a bit of a Johnny come lately to clue setting.

Avoiding any more bickering, won't somebody PLEASE stamp on my sandcastle?

Examiner approaches new Viking: whip the native French.
    (4,6)

Hint: whole clue at start of clue, I did threaten to throw some Danish in, and the native French contain no aliens.

    Tony Martin.

Because he's a tester (examiner) and his name fits 4,6. (And 'to' is approaches and 'n' is new. I couldn't work the rest of it out - possibly cos I'm wrong)

    You're right.

Ny is is new in Danish. A Martinet is a French cat-o-nine-tails. Native French = no aliens = no ET.

I look forward to much scandal and opprobrium regarding my setting.

    Thanks for having a crack.

I'm not sure about the examiner bit. I know examiner is tester, but that's actually cryptic itself, rather than being the direct clue...
