You can't have Aix can you? It's not the full name.

You genuinely feel your thread will be taken seriously when you mention doping and post pics of LA all over it?

Bar in Spain, went past signs for it on way from Andorra to Barcelona. Stopped off for a beer, but no pub there - rude!

I drove down some of this on Sunday, the bit at about 80km into the stage is lovely, beautiful river & little waterfalls off side of road down narrow gorge-y thing. Lots of people swimming there on Sun.

Speaking of eccentricity, I've only seen the devil once this year, have I missed him or do you think he is still ill? Mid nineties he was all over the tour, giant bike and everything.

The organisers have ignored him ever since he got commercialised. I saw him jumping around on Ventoux, though. He's not wearing red anymore either.

He clearly does pretty well for himself with the sponsorships. There he goes sporting Vibrams!

Respect. I wondered who would know about Die ... especially as it's on the map earlier in this thread.

I have "bell work" in my classes, something to work on that takes about five minutes (maybe finding cities on a map in Geography, naming the important Commanders from both sides in an important battle in History, etc) while I do things like take attendance, pass out papers and talk to students. I usually add a fun thing as well and, for my geography classes I have all kinds of goofy lists of cities, three letters, twelve letters, in languages not of that country, people's names, etc. I am the guy everyone calls to be on their team at trivia nights (actually won one on the last question of the night...who was the first American to wear the yellow jersey!)

That's reminded me of Gex in France, where they make a particularly stinky blue cheese (Bleu de Gex). Delicious if you can get it past your nose.

So, today's quiz: how many towns or cities can you think of with just three letters, other than Gap? No cheating or Googling now...

How do you pronounce that and where is it ?

There's several of them in Wales. The one I think of is just south of Ebbw Vale. It's pronounced much as spelt, can't think how to do it phonetically but the best I can do is Coom in a northern accent rather than posh southern! It's Welsh for valley.
  • HELP !

Lucky enough to be heading off in an hour for a squint at Stage 16.

Should we (family) head for a sleepy, mid-stage village, a quiet road, or just head for the chaos of Gap (2+hrs drive) ?

    So disoganised.

We went to sleepyish village twice and the atmosphere was still cracking. It was very busy in Fougeres for the depart, which I imagine will be the same in Gap, but we did get a decent view. We got their v early though and parking was a bit of a nightmare. The choice is yours!

On Stage 13 we went to Bruere Allichamps, sleepy village 10k from the finish. It was fantastic. Sit down lunch, t.v.'s in people's front windows, whole village out. Would certainly recommend it for 'authentic' TdF

Epic start to the thread Alan!

Towns with just three letters? Can I have Aix minus the -en-Provence because no one uses the -en-Provence...

Lots of places in the Middle East called Tel, actually only two letters in Semitic languages but can I have all those? Means hill by the way.

Ooo is Spa in Belgium a town? You said no googling. I'll be at this all day now, you don't know what you've done, the geek has been unleashed.

OI! Rich set the standard for Spoiler thread first posts with the Ventoux stage. It was a Froometastic first post. This edit, it's gone all Cofidis.

    Harsh but fair.
