OGE are riding like a team that needs a GC contender. Anyone know a rider with Aussie roots who may be looking for a new team next season and could compete in a GT?

Doesnt Wiggo have some Aussie in him?

    His estranged dad was Australian.

ah yes thats it, I couldnt decide whether I was thinking of his dad or SHane Sutton.
The way the Aussies are going with their cricketers at the moment, having worked with Sutton might be enough to qualify Wiggins to ride for Australia

I kid you not, when Wiggo won the Tour last year, the Australia media were calling him one of their own because of the estranged father.
Really? 'Cause I don't remember any of that (although the occasional comment of that sort wouldn't greatly suprise me).

Haha, the Aussies have always been good at that and then disowning when they fail. Example; Australian Russell Crowe wins an Oscar, New Zealand born Russell Crowe questioned by police over attacking someone with a telephone.

Great ride by GT. Will be pleased with that.
Probably gave it all he could, knowing he has little chance of making it through the mountains at the weekend.

Quotes in the Guardian suggest that he felt a bit better yesterday, and Brailsford states the objective for Thomas was to get through the first three minutes, but not only did he do so, but he then started taking his turn on the front. I guess that suggests that it's not only starting to heal a bit, but that it also eases up a little once he's got moving? Also suggests that he's planning on hanging around now. Would be interesting to know if he was dropped in the final km because he couldn't hang on, or whether he was advised to drop off and save himself a bit once they knew he'd make the time cut.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the Tour de France being timed off Ted King's bike computer...

If Contador was still on the good stuff, Nico Roche would be in Yellow tonight.

    Just sayin'

Seemed more like they burnt their matches too early from the split times.

Nah, it was def Contadors fault. What was he doing taking a swig from a bidon during a TTT that was never going to last more than 28 mins?
Most teams did not even bother with bottle cages for that distance.

Ok I'm going to say it - first road race stage of the tour and we re blaming a crash in the last 10km on the race organisers?

Come on! Have you never watched the tour before?

Mainly greipel moving through a tiny gap I thought. Part of racing, likely to happen without the change in finish especially with that choke point at 3 km to go.

Yeh, maybe Ted King doesn't want to stay in, but then why start? He was off the back from the first corner

The guy was having to race on a road bike, because of his severely damaged shoulder..... ! Jesus wept.

A post race interview with DB (I think) suggested it was the plan for him to drop off then if still with them as he wouldn't be able to make the out of the saddle effort in the last few hundred metres. The speed bumps at the end might not have been much fun at full speed either.

EDIT Found it on the Sky website

"Then it was about keeping in contact with the team and those first three minutes were his big objective. Not only did he do that, after another three minutes he then started going through, taking turns, and pulling as strong as anyone else. That was incredible to see".

Phil- I don't know if you think what I said was criticising Ted or not? the second part might be out of context slightly as it was added on once I tried to post the first bit about Greipel, and saw that someone had said maybe Ted King doesn't want to continue. So to clarify, I meant that if he didn't want to continue, either he wouldn't have started the stage, or once of the back of the line he would have quit.

He has a separated shoulder- can't even imagine the discomfort he was in and have huge respect for him finishing that ride.

So the Saxo rider who fell was hit / hit a camera. It would have been interesting to see what happened if he missed the cut.

Noval who went to hospital is starting but I don`t know what his finishing time was but as it happened in the last few km, I imagine he was withing the time.

Noval was hit in the hand by the camera belonging to a photographer positioned in the final kilometers of the circuit. He received a sharp knock and a possible broken finger. A fracture was counted out after a trip to the hospital, but Noval did suffer damage to a ligament in his right index finger. Thanks to a special bandage, he will be able to take the start tomorrow.

Not any old bandage, but a special bandage.

All the money that Sky are paying him, yet Geraint Thomas still gets his mum to cut his hair.

So why is the bandage on his left index finger - or is that what makes it a special bandage?

Marginal gains at work again... the money he saves on professional haircuts goes towards training and equipment!

Thanks - its an interesting insight into the level of planning that goes on.
