The Scott CR1 SL Thread

The rear wheel does run true, but when you put the axles in the drop outs there is plenty of lateral play before you do up the QR. When the axles are at the "top point" of the drop outs, the wheel naturally wants to sit closer to the drive side chainstay. Also just tried it with my trainer wheel and the same thing happens. Almost feels as if the carbon drop outs have had too much material removed on one side, although I'm guessing they should normally be at least a couple of mm wider than the wheel axles to allow quick wheel changes?Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0

I have the same issue so have to hold the wheel in place before tightening.0

Just checked my unbuilt SL - no lateral play at all in the rear dropout. Interestingly, I noticed that the mech hangar has had the black paint removed in one area of the surface that the axle bears on to. It looks like it has been filed down a bit after fitting as there are possible rub marks on the dropout itself. It all fits properly but suggests that there is a bit of manual fettling needed on them - which maybe they haven't all had. All a bit weird.Faster than a tent.......0

FYI
RS10, R500 & R501 all seem to have threaded axles I haven't checked my other wheelsets but I can tell you my very well used CR1 SL has no sign of damage and its been fitted with RS10 from day one.

I'm continually attracted to the frameset deal on the Westbrook site - not that I need one but there's still a M-sized one listed. Being Di2-specific I'd have to splash more cash on new bits than a mechanical one would enable me to pull-off an exisiting bike.
I DO like the pro-team one though and these seem to get one of the best reps for an aero frame out there - light, stiff, aero - bargain !0 -

Any use to anyone?
Am I best to put it in "Classifieds" and hope someone sees it before it disappears of the front page?
I dare say though it would be snapped up in a flash if you put that up in the classifieds.
It's now in the classified section folks. The ideal winter project!0 -
I've seen a few CR1's on sportives, however they were invariably proper versions, not frame builds.0

Force 22 groupset arrived last night, so may finally get round to building the bike up (well getting a shop to do it).0

JZed, Is that a custom paint job on a CR1? If so, who did that?0 -

I've bought some ultegra 6700 tubeless compatible rims for mine, i'm going to take the plunge and see what its like, if it is actually a more comfortable ride i'll do the same on my Cervelo R5 which already has stans tubless rims.

I did indeed, and now I'm enlightened.
....surprised there's not quite a few folk getting custom graphics on bikes though.0 -

I have just gotten round to building my CR1, her she is with new ultegra 6800 11 speed and Zipp bars, stem and tape, Easton carbon seatpost and fizik Antares saddle.
issue with conti gp4000s 25mm on the back with the archetype 23mm rims. Very little clearance so I have swapped to 23mm grand prix black chilli that the LBS had in stock. still got 25mm on the front for now
OCD note: bike fit next week, so steerer and spacers will be significantly reduced!
Great build, was the LBS you mentioned situated very close to a certain rugby league ground by any chance? If so I took a look at your bike when it was being put together in the workshop (Rick was trying to push me from Ultegra 6700 to the new 6800 groupset at the time).
Do you mind me asking if you had the choice of colours with your groupset? The same LBS will be building mine and as 6700 is now out of stock, I'm looking towards 6800 but have only been offered it in silver, whereas I'd prefer the black or charcoal finish like yours.
Hey Chris. I got the groupset from merlin I chose the colourhttp://www.merlincycles.com/bike- ... upset.html The rest from various other places. Now have a fizik aliante after bike fit with rick. Pleased with it so far. Got the steerer cut as well.
Thinking of some new bars as the zipps are very deep and not so compact.

Looks a lot better with the steerer cut and a better angle on the photo. I got Zipp short shallow bars for mine and they're pretty good. Only got service course so they're not the lightest but I wanted matte black to go with the frame and Evens were doing 40+% off in their sale. Stem and post are the same. Currently 15.9lbs but still potential for a fair bit lower.

I fitted the new ultegra 6700 yesterday and took them out for their maiden voyage in today monsoon, I can not believe how much lateral play there is on these wheels, i've tried lots of different QR tension but they still move 5+ mm and rub like buggery against the pads.
Is it possible that these wheels are much weaker than the lower models?Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Is the play at the bearings? If so, they're cup and cone so should be easy to fix.0

Has anybody with 25mm tyres fitted SKS Raceblade Longs, don't want to stump up £40 unless I am sure they will fit?

If all the final bits for mine turn up this week thens it's of to Westbrook for building on Friday.
Ultegra 6800
Gigantex 50mm Tubs (Ugo built)
3T cockpit etc
Speedplay Cromo's
Even going to treat myself to some Rapha clothing.
Think all in this build will be around the £1650 mark so not to bad0 -

If you do get it sorted, especially with 25mm then please post a photo as I've been wondering about both 25c and mudguards for some time.
I know I need mudguards now because of the amount of crap on the wet roads at the moment, but I'd like to pair them with 25c if possible, but I'll stick with 23c if not.0 -
If it's any use my CR1-SL has 25mm GP4 seasons with plenty of room to spare, but not enough I think to take a mudguard too.0

Re: carbon dropouts and threaded axles?
I've run out of ride passes with the Mrs this weekend so may have to resort to using the turbo  . The rear wheel Ive used with other bikes on the turbo has a threaded axle, so given some of the horror stories on other forum threads, I wondered whether anyone was regularly using their CR1 SL with threaded axles on a turbo? Should I avoid and get a cheap training wheel with a non threaded or sleeved axle?Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -
Re mudguards, crudracers work very well with 23mm tyres. excuse the photo used my phone and had to adjust brightness.0

I've fitted these guards to a Ridley Noah RS with 25mm conti GP 4 seasons. It was only after I fitted them that I read the box and saw that were meant for 23mm tyres maximum. Oh well, they seem to fit OK. Clearance seems fine but the plastic clips that connect the guard to the stays can rub against the tyre sidewall occasionally on rough roads where the guard is moving from side to side. Not a big deal really and probably happens with 23mm tyres as well.0
