Just checked Google images for 5700 chain rings and the 'bits' that stick in aren't there

as opposed to my Ultegra which looks like this...

... so thank you very much McBiker, you may well have saved me a lot of expense and grief!

LOL, that is another reason for me to ask as well now that you mention it!

Very simple, get a hairdryer and warm the labels up for about 30 seconds then peel them off. If you get any of the glue separating from the label you just need to rub this around under your thumb and it will ball up and lift off. Looks like a big bogey but will lift of the remainder of the glue if you use it like a rubber. In essence, it's not difficult. 3T kit was from wiggle.

Excellent, they may be the wheels for me then. Not just because I want to hide them, but I think in general bike stuff looks better without logos plastered all over it.

Nice stem. I've kind of got used to my regular 3T one now.

May I ask why you de-stickered the wheels? I'm not a big fan off the red swoosh on my Zondas, but I think I quite like advertising their Campagfulness.

I'm not a big ban of all the labels, my first road bike was a Trek 1.1 (which feels like the weight of a bus now but i thought was pretty cool when i got it) and it's literally covered in Trek logos on every surface.

The fulcrums are very nice but the whole rim is covered in swooshes and advertising, I prefer the clean simple look with the machined braking surface in silver and the hoops in black. If i could peel the big Scott graphic off the downtube i would but it's painted on under a layer of matte lacquer

If i could afford some Zipps i'd probably leave them logo'd though, i think most people would.

Going back to the new Scott's; it seems the Solace (daft name, sounds like a James Bond thing), is pretty much the same as the CR1. With the SL being renamed the 'Premium' (daft name), then the 10, 20 & 30, having the equivalent of the pro frame.

Sounds daft that I'm already looking at what my next bike will be when I haven't finished speccing out my current one yet; and hope to ride it for a good 5 years at least!

glad to help...Hadn't thought of that as an issue but this (very old fashioned) way of achieving a triple, bolting the inner ring directly to the middle, doestn' appeal which is why I went with 105 instead of ultegra...looks like I saved myself alot of grief too!
Shimano introduced this "triplizer" ring on DuraAce (7800 IIRC)...but I think Stronglite were already there in the 1970s.

Perhaps it would be possible to file down some of the tabs? You know what minimum diameter you need to achieve. Otherwise, Ribble was the cheapest source of 5703 I found 2 weeks ago.

EDIT: I think the BCD is different on the crank mount (5703) to the ring-mounted (6703) so it may not be possible to achieve the clearance required by swapping rings.

I asked on Wiggle if you could remove the decals on the Fulcrum 3's and they said "We would not advise removing the decals on this wheelset." - Any ideas why they would say that?

    PMSL

Guessing the person who replied at Wiggle isn't a bike person, more of a "customer service specialist".

Hmm I guess so. Any other wheels of similar (or better) spec where you can take the labels off?

Picked mine up from the LBS this afternoon, and just got back from a first 35 miler. Was slightly nervous about what I'd let myself in for given the various comments about a harsh back end - WHAT?! This SL is comfy! 8) :D As in close to Roubaix comfy but with none of the "squish". I am loving this bike. The SRAM Force groupset is great too, a lighter touch than Rival I think, and it matches the colour scheme of the frame brilliantly. Will post some pics tomorrow...

Oh, and the 54cm is a great fit for me (5'8.5", 31" inseam) Very happy!

Then at 5ft 7" I'm sure my small with a 53cm top tube will be just right, earlier today I saw an XS which I thought looked more suitable.
    Roll on tomorrow :D

    Wheels 1850gr
    Groupset 2624gr according to totalcycling.com

So better wheels Shamal, Fulcrum Zero etc 1450 Saves 400gr
Force or Chorus approx 2225 saves 400 gr
(the really light ones have Sram Red which is about 1780gr for a groupset !)

17.88lbs in kg is 8.10 so less 800 saving is 7.3kg take off another 300gr for pedals as most weights don't include pedlas and then your close to under 7kg

Now, off to Merlin you go

Seriously though them wheels need to go first, you'll see a massive difference with some better wheels, then I'd go chainset or groupset depending on budget or what needs replacing.

    Nice work

However seeing as this time last year when I was in the Pyrenees and 24lbs heavier i think the 1.5 ish lbs difference between the scott and my ribble wont be the deciding factor in my ability to finish the Marmotte.

    Correct

But some better wheels will help, even if it's mostly mental.

Had some proper time to take it out for a spin in the hills today. Got my Box Hill time below 6.30 and took a massive chunk off my Staple Lane pb without really giving it a good shake. the DA 9000 is just amazing too. It shifts so nicely.

Other than being fast I found it really forgiving on the Surrey lane ways so anyone wondering if it's a bit harsh, I really don't think it is. Mind you, my Felt wasn't exactly a Roubaix bike.

Two very very big thumbs up. 1000x kudos points to whoever spotted the frame.

Thanks: filing / cutting off the tabs had crossed my mind, but Ribble do a generic 30T tab-less ring with a 74 BCD which will fit so I'll put one of those on.

I don't know why the 30T rings have those inward-pointing tabs on when the bigger rings don't... :?

On a different note, I must admit to have not yet checked whether the frame came with a rear mech hanger - does it, and if not which ones have people bought?
  • Frame comes with almost everything you'll need. The hanger appears to be carbon too.

    Here's mine:

    CR1SL3_zps0a8a5202.jpg

    16.2 lb
    SRAM Force
    Prolite Bracciano wheels
    FSA OS-115 stem
    FSA K wing bars
    Look Keo pedals
    Carbon seatpost
    Toupe saddle

Doesn't really show in the pic but the colour of the Force callipers and rear derailleur match the "bronze" hints on the carbon frame brilliantly 8)

Yeah the Force colours match really well.
Where did you get the post ? Looks like just the kind of layback I need for mine (lbs have now promised for tomorrow).
    Nice job.
Are those tiny bits of red on the saddle bothering you ................

Yeah, fair spot about the saddle. Trying to keep costs down so re-using as much stuff as poss, but will probably be unable to resist changing the toupe to the same but in a different colourway. Alternatively I have some red SRAM hoods that I contemplated putting on, to "make" it match and tie in with the red accents on the saddle but wasn't sure :?

Post came from fleabay and is unbranded. Think it's around 20mm layback but reckon I need slightly more, so might be joining the saddle in the classifieds section at some point!

Looking forward to seeing yours after you pick it up tomorrow...
