Can't you edit your original post and put "spoiler" in the title?

Done. I was still stunned by the peloton getting it so wrong....
You must be seriously stunned ;). You've edited the wrong post.

You need to go back to the very start of the thread, and edit the subject in the first post.

    Oh. For. God's. Sake

Spoilt the thread in so many ways....

If you can all pardon my massive stupidity this morning....

Well, that's what comes when the GC teams leave it totally to the sprinter teams when the only ones pulling were Vini Fantini and Androni, not even Cannondale for Viviani.

    Serves the big boys right.

At least Bouet was in the list of 11 favourites for the race which I saw.

I don't think the big teams will be too bothered. Takes the pressure off having to defend a lead for the next 3 days and they can experiment a bit more with different tactics. MIght make for better racing over the remaining stages.

I'd imagine most of those in the top 8 will lose a fair bit of time on this stage.... http://www.girodeltrentino.com/clientfi ... metria.jpg
although I doubt Bouet will lose that much time.

Interesting result. Will be hard, but not totally impossible for the big GC names to get all that time back in the next few days, but Bouet for one is a decent climber and they only have to limit their losses.

I would imagine that the big teams would like to see their men win the overall, but Astana might just be happy if Nibali finishes above Wiggins and vice versa. Hopefully the big teams will take it up earlier to try and drop those guys who were in the break earlier than they might otherwise have done.

Blinding move by AG2R though, if Bouet gets dropped they can just unleash the mountain man-child Pozzovivo.

Well that's potentially ruined the race then..

.. I guess everyone will just be looking for stage wins now.

Reminds me of the 1990 Tour de France when 4 men escaped and won by 10 mins.
It took Lemond till the stage 19 TT to get the Yellow Jersey off Chiappucci who finished 2nd on GC in Paris.

Vaguely remember the Ship Builders protest at the St Nazaire bridge which help the break.

Would have gone something like this:

    Cadel still looks rubbish
    Basso way past it
Scarponi looks good but he's really scummy, especially after accepting that Giro victory the other year so hopefully we will see him get dropped on the first mountain
Big battle between Wiggins and Nibali
    Wiggins has stronger team
    Nibali perhaps better form
They spend so much time looking at eachother that the real battle is between Rolland and...
Oh sh*t, here come Pozzovivo (who has been very quiet this year) and wins

If I remember correctly, that was very much like today - a morning stage with a TTT in the afternoon. Bauer and Pensec in the group too - quality riders - utter madness.

that's cos he's not riding Trentino - he's Ardennes, isnt he

for those who care, and in the absence of any actual race footage so far, some stuff shot at this morning's sign on

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXkWshVh1RE

    Nibs looking fairly chilled
    Wiggo looking a tad grumpy
    Joe Dombro looking about 13
    etc etc

You weren't talking about the Giro (d'Italia) then?

RR isn't the only one having a 'mare today.

I was also wondering if the TTT this afternoon had a big part to play in this. If for example Astana had taken it up and tried to bring the break back they'd have been pasted by Sky and BMC in the TTT this afternoon. I can just see the GC teams all looking at each other as the break continued to go out until it was too late.

Anyone know if they're using radios or if they were banned for the stage?

I feel like I can't be bothered to watch it for the rest of the week! The whole peloton need a smack!
If they need some smack they could call Darryl Webster.

    I'll show myself out.
  • But nice to see it's not going to be straightforward for the usual suspects again.

Is this the first time Sky have managed to get their TTT to perform properly?

Mind you, maybe not the highest quality tt field?
