Any dog that does any biting won't hang around for long.

Then I suggest you get a grip of those doing the poking. I won't change to please you or anyone else.

Yeah but its you that's had comments removed or altered, toning it down a bit wouldn't be a bad thing that's all, most people are up for a good debate, but not insults, you gotta think that just cos you think its okay to talk like that it doesn't mean some older/younger/more conservative people wanna hear it. Self restraint is hard though if someone does suggest you read the Daily Mail.

Maybe you should read the Guardian more often then instead of the Daily Mail or whatever crap you get these attitudes from.

So you call people's posts "lezzer, tree-hugging crap" and think that's not a little insulting? Maybe you expected me to come back and say "oh no it isn't"?

You mentioned limp-wristedness. Limp-wristed in my book is throwing around insults without backing them up. Anyone can say that something is crap, but why is it crap? Care to explain yourself?

You can disagree if you like, but don't be insulting about it if you can't back it up.

I suggest you take your own advice. Accept that your World view doesn't match reality and zip that irritating hole in your face. I don't agree with you and I won't agree with you. Now run along pumpkin.
I just had to re-quote that amazingly well-honed piece of dialectic brilliance. Speaks for itself really.

Why is the Guardian crap as a newspaper? They all are TBH & you have to read between the lines even with the broadsheets to see what their political agenda is.

I'm not trying to get into an argument with either of you - but some people are & have been far to quick to jump on the antics of a young, possibly socially inept, young rich sportsman and use them to pontificate it to be a bigger story than it is.

Keyboard bashing out frustrations aside I can see both sides of the augment but please keep in civil as your not in the BB section & quite rightly no matter who started it insults will get reported by those who are offended and the Mods will act accordingly

People tend to pick newspapers with agendas that correspond to their own views though. Yes, all papers have agendas but that's because it's pretty much impossible to be completely objective and still say anything worthwhile. If the paper's agenda is the same as your own it doesn't appear as an agenda.

I agree with you that Sagan's actions were in themselves pretty trivial given his youth etc, but where I disagree is that there isn't a bigger issue behind it. To me the bigger issue IS the issue - what's important is that bum-pinching of podium girls in official presentations shouldn't be happening. It's not a huge issue for Sagan or maybe even for the woman in question, but it would be a big issue if that sort of thing was generally thought of as OK in this day and age, just as racist language is unacceptable. Sagan deserves a slap on the wrist, but the point is not that he pinched an arse, it's that arses shouldn't be pinched.

Okay, this is my first post and I understand you do not know me ,but I´d like to put some light on this situation.

I am from Slovakia, the country where Sagan is from. That may get a lot of you to think that I have to defend him, however I will take a different approach.

First of all,I am sorry if my english isn´t that good and I hope you will be able to understand my post.

Sagan´s behaviour was bad. I agree with it,it was unprofessional and he shouldn´t have done it.

However, there are a lot of theories going on as to why he did it. The fact is that he didn´t do it to get attention or to be more interesting than the winner. He did it because his friend shouted at him to do it as a joke and Sagan was looking at him as you can see in the pictures. So he did it just because of one person. How many times did you tell a story and it was funny only for you and your friend because it reminds you of something you two have lived through in the past? And none of the people around you understand the joke? This pun was intended only for his friend and WAS NOT an act to gain publicity.

Secondly,I agree with the fact that his age shouldn´t be an excuse. But are we seriously going to talk about every smallest mistake we do in our lives? ( And bring up photos of sexist T-shirts? How many women wear shirts like that at home? And most of them find it funny. That picture was from his free time and NOT an official event.) What he did was a thing he shouldn´t have done. But it was a small mistake. A mistake he can learn from and be a better man in the future. I seriously doubt we have to make this big deal on an international scale out of it.

And third: Is a light touch of butt an excuse for calling someone a pig and a pervert? I really think you shouldn´t judge someone´s character from a few mistakes he has done in his youth. I believe a lot of you have made at least one sexist joke in your lives or done something similar and does that make you a pervert? What he did in on official stage was ill-considered and a mistake. But let´s not call him a pervert and similar names for that

Thank you for your time to anyone reading this

I wouldn't say they were trivial (given his youth yes perhaps) but he is whether he likes it or not a public figure and perhaps more accountable for his actions professional rider and the image that this gives off and the responsibilities bestowed onto him. But that is just my view.

Will stand by my point though that the press seem to picked up on this and run with what is a bit of a story and made it into a much bigger thing. Without wanting to cause any further arguments I have also read quite a few pieces by renowned feminist writers who are using this reason to bash the issue and the rider whilst writing for papers & magazines that use similar female stereo types to promote the 'sexy' woman image which I have a bit of an issue about. If you are that much against the use of a the female form as simply window dressing and to sell items please consider it is not just men that these types of ad's are aimed at just take a look at the plethora of female magazines (which I assume are aimed at females) using similar advertising styles.

Your right that arse's shouldn't be pinched. My ex was a female model who did this sort of work part time including working at motorcycle events wearing promotional clothes. Whilst I might not have liked other guys/girls looking at her in such a way & having their photo taken with her as you will see at cycle events with the promo girls I was grown up enough to trust her and support her in her choice of part time job.

+1 Jane it is sexual assault. I know of instances where people have been prosecuted and convicted of such.
Ah, so the test for whether or not something is bad is if you can successfully be prosecuted for it? I think this is "sexual assault" in the same sense that taking a pee in public can apparently be enough to get you onto the sex offenders register. Might be correct according to the law as written but anyone with a bit of common sense and/or some sense of perspective (sadly lacking here) can see there's a difference.

As for that link you posted...
Even if a woman's job is to wear a short dress and hand out shiny awards to men, it doesn't mean anyone has a right to anything else from her. Sagan crossed the line, a line that should be VERY clear, and his ass should be punished. In a world that wasn't the sexist worst, this shoot would be handled with a team suspension and extensive training for Sagan on how to be a human being. Instead he'll probably be high-fived by a bunch of his pals for violating a woman, and th-th-that's all, folks.
No. Just no. It's not "th-th-that's all, folks." and this thread and the whole internet sh*tstorm this has generated is ample proof that the world isn't "the sexist worst". If the world was as sexist as some of you are making out, nobody would have cared what Sagan did! Why is that difficult to understand? TWH posted another link earlier that made this exact point but nobody seems to have read it. I have zero doubt Sagan is regretting his rather tasteless and unfortunate joke and won't be doing it again. End of story, please go back to waiting for the next artificial controversy to get outraged over.

No one has yet been able to explain to me how Sagan groping a woman's bottom is a joke? How is it funny? People are excusing it this way but are unable to explain why it is funny? And if its all the same to you I won't "go back" anywhere thanks very much. I don't happen to think sexual assault with a large proportion of excuses being made for it actually is an 'artificial controversy'. I think it's a very real problem.

A very real problem????? hahaha AIDS and cancer is a very real problem. Get over yourself, a young guy pinched a girls bum and you think he should be done for sexual assault?

Does riding a bike too long remove any hetrosexual male tendencies?

I'm pretty much with you. I admire Sagan's exploits on the bike and he comes across as a pretty normal young lad. Assuming he learns from his mistake that's the end of it as far as I'm concerned. My quarrel here is with people who think there is absolutely nothing wrong with what he did.

There's so many balanced views there, not fed on media hype designed to sell stories. Just solid arguments based on facts. No one trying to impose there views on others. No attempt to create a better world (in their eyes) without foreseeing the consequences that reality brings.

Try debating the nomenclature once it's up there.
  • To be fair, Sagan didn't just pinch a girl's arse against her will (bad enough). He pinched a girl's arse against her will in front of millions of people, including kids.

Also, I can't believe everyone doesn't find paying a woman to kiss someone who's won a bike race pretty f*cking lame. It's proper sad fellas, really 1930s.

If everyone took that view we'd all still be hitting each other over the head with clubs, selling slaves and stoning women for adultery. And we wouldn't have things such as the NHS which the Americans are opposing their possible version of right now for reasons similar to the ones you are giving.

Strange how by merely stating views (even ones which most reasonable people would agree with) you are somehow "imposing" them if the audience happens to disagree.

If anything has made a mess of things in the U.K. over the past 20 years it's political and moral apathy, which has made politics the sole concern of the political classes and completely divorced from people's lives.
