Fixeds with discs

I've not tweaked the commuters bits in a month or two and I fancy a festive fettle.
It's the Condor Tempo which has the stock Condor carbon fork.
Tempted by something like
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/kinesis-cx-dc37 ... isc-mount/
http://www.fatbirds.co.uk/443708/produc ... forks.aspx
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/evolution-a6 ... prod29360/
Along with Avid BB7s.
Anyone done similar, or have any reason to either pick another route or just stop messing with the thing and carry on riding it as is?

Been tempted myself but now that I'm running bull horns and a TT lever stopping power is pretty damn awesome.
but if it works, I could be very tempted just as an excuse to fettle0 -
I've been thinking about doing the same thing for ages and I still am thinking about it.FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future

Same here. But undecided if I should give up the drops on the Pompino or get a road disc caliper. Also overwhelmed by ambivalence as it's not like I need a disc.0 -

Hmm, I think it probably is.... firstly, you don't need a disc on the rear wheel and secondly you are transferring the braking load through the whole drivetrain... Think what's going to happen if you lose the chain...
It's interesting but I think it is a bad idea!

Zackly what happens with leg braking on a fixie BreadDude.
(Mind you, even though I'm pretty good at leg braking now, the DuraAce caliper on the front of the fixeh isn't getting dropped anytime soon ;-) )FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits

Fixie with discs, you say?
Or literally fixed with discs
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

Should fit straight onto the Pompino.Misguided Idealist0 -
Last week I converted to BB7 road's with a deore fron hub and surley fixed disc rear hub (just google it), fantastic, I can post pics and pice of bits and pieces.

Are you running the Road Rat SS or FG?0 -
Fixed, if you wanted SS, it's easier just to use a conventional disk hub with a convertor kit, the surley fixed disk hub only runs fixed, I think Paul components and Phil Wood also do one for silly money...
Hub was £70, Aerotrack rim and build was another £50 mailorder and Tokyo fixed. I had to fit a new cog and sort my chainline (and a Puncture) so hence it's upside down. Sorry for the mobile phone quailty. I also went with Jagwire cables (£24) as these don't compress under braking given the cable housing runs from the drops all the way to the rear hub.If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. interesting, dhope you pulled the trigger yet?
OT bit since all you FG riders are here, has anyone geared down for the winter? can't decide whether to MTFU or go down 51x17 to 51x18.0 -
Mine is 48x16 (79.1 inches), wasn't planning to change for winter.- Genesis Croix de Fer

May gear down to 48x16 from 48x15. Not like I'm going to spin out on 48x16 either0 -
Spun out at about 28 today. Couldn't keep that pace up indefinitely mind, but that's about my limit for a sprint.- Genesis Croix de Fer

I can't see a reason to, 42/14 causes no issues come rain or shine (28mm tyres so helping raise the gearing)If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.0

I run 42*16. Used to be 48*16 but my knees started hurting from pulling up to get away from lights (I think my seat positioning was too far back which made it worse.)
Tend not to spin out too much. Then again I can get my rpm quite high - http://app.strava.com/activities/20873751FCN 9 || FCN 50 -
42x16 for me too.
Tend to top out with tailwinds but I can spin quite fast.
That and I'm not quite fast enough on the flats to match the big boys.0 -

Do it, really interested in the front disc conversion. Just changing my SS to 48x16 from 52x18 for more awesomeness.

I stick with 48x18 (28mm tyres) year round.
It works well for me - it's the biggest gear with which I can ride up the Big Hill home!Misguided Idealist0
