    World book day.

    Why?

My daughters might disagree with you there as they get free books on world book day.
    ...and they like books.

    The dressing up stuff.
So you are not objecting to the idea just the dress that some people choose to wear in association?

The expectation that kids should dress up for the day in a home made costume and go to school with their favourite book. It's a case of expectation vs option.

That's obviously peculiar to individual schools.
Our 2 didn't dress up and there was no expectation that they had to (or were allowed to).

My grand children loved the whole aspect, dressing up and reading. They enjoy reading year round too. Obviously other opinions are available.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Why does the co-op put the smokey bacon walkers crisps next to the prawn cocktail?

    Practically the same colour.

Maybe it's a prank to annoy people who can't read?

About to fit new discs and pads to the car before MOT and finding that the security wheel nut socket has mysteriously disappeared.

Mmm, tried hammering a socket onto the nut. No, foiled, as cunningly the nut is fitted with an outer sleeve that just spins. Right time to get serious with the angle grinder by cutting two flats onto the head of the nut. No, not enough purchase to loosen the nut. Angle grinder again, this time cutting a groove into the nut and attacking with a lump hammer and chisel. Persuading them too much, results in the nut shattering leaving less material to hit. Carefully does it now and success, four wheels off and brakes done. Phew!

    New nuts and socket £20.

One thing I am trivially happy about is not discovering that I’d misplaced the socket whilst stuck at the side of the road with a puncture and no way of removing the wheel!

You didn't replace the locking wheel nuts with more locking wheel nuts did you?

I did have those thoughts about nobody nicking wheels anymore, but I also visualised myself stuck in the middle of nowhere with the car on blocks, so bought security ones .

I've had to do that to undo the bolts on the brake blocks on bike callipers when the allen key hole has rounded (though using a hand file rather than angle grinder), but I'm glad I haven't got security bolts on the car wheels. Wheel theft probably not an issue with a 20yo Almera.

    Arghhh the dreaded rounded hex.
My car is nearly as old, so any potential thieves will probably just target my shiny new security wheel nuts.

Haven't they moved onto catalytic converters and draining fuel tanks?

It's actually a time consuming business and therein lies greater risk of being caught.
If a criminal rolled up with a car transporter + winch, they can have the whole car on the back of the transporter in very little time. Chuck a car cover over it and away ye go. If it's in gear and/or the handbrake is on, they can just drag the thing up the ramp.

If they want to nick wheels, the logistics are different. They have to get the whole car off the ground (or do it corner by corner) and then wrestle with the locking wheel nuts/wheel nuts and or the car is not on the handbrake, stop the wheel turning whilst you use a wheel wrench (slow) or you use an impact wrench (fast but very noisy)...

My mate had a MK2 Harrier Escort. He got it cheap because the previous owner was victim to an attempted wheel theft.
The thieves got the car on to blocks, loosened 2 sets of wheel nuts, obviously got spooked and didn't come back. Owner not realising this, got in the car first thing in the morning, tried to drive away and the car collapsed onto the front struts and discs and made a helluva mess.

Most cars already have alloys anyway so there is no market to sell to?
