It is interesting to read some insight from riders within the PDM team in 88 and 89 and the differences in the attitude between the team doctor and soigneurs.

  • Wonder if Kelly has done some kalquelashions and decided to drop Kimmage off his christmas card list ( think that might have happened some time ago)

Funny in the book Rough Ride - how much Kimmage spits in the soup drugs wise - but sees no immorality in trying to fix crits with English riders for King Kelly?

    PDM 1991 TOUR

Stricken by a mysterious ailment that team officials suspect was food poisoning, the remaining members of the PDM cycling team withdrew today from the Tour de France. The casualties included Erik Breukink, a Dutchman who was third in the overall standing and who was a favorite in the three-week bicycle race.

Five riders for PDM, which is ranked No. 1 in the professional cycling world, had withdrawn Monday. The other four were not allowed by their coach, Jan Gisbers, to start today because they were suffering with high temperatures and pain. In addition to Breukink, those forced out today were Raul Alcala, Sean Kelly and Joes Van Aert.

Well, the European crit is/was an exhibition race while the Kelloggs Series in the UK and Ireland were a little different in that they were an important part of the British pro's season and a source for good prize money. I think that is why the conflict between the Irish and British riders came about in 1989 (I think that was the year in question). The three Irish crits that year turned into a full-on battle between the fab-four and the UK pros and actually made for some good, aggressive, racing, culminating in a real humdinger of a sprint between Chris Lillywhite and Sean Kelly.

I think Kelly is fairly pragmatic about the whole thing. He did say in his book that he was surprised "Rough Ride" was met with so much opposition in the peloton, given that he (Kelly) felt everything stated in PK's book was true!

All good emotional stuff, but what's he actually saying?
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

not really sure - he's become a sleuth

    who

    uses

    lists

    too much

( at least he didn't give the whole lyrics to a U2 song to validate his argument

    Boy, stupid boy
Don't sit at the table until you're able to
    Toy, broken toy
Shout and shout, you're inside out

    If you don't know
    Electric Co.
    If you don't know
    Electric Co.

    Red, running red
Play for real, talk and feel
    A hole in your head
You won't shout, you're spoon fed
