Good news:Antur Stiniog 'not just for DH loonies'0
-
I'm hoping that this snow is all blown away by then!
It's Spring damnit! It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.
Join us on UK-MTB we won't bite, but bring cake!
Blender Cube AMS Pro0 -
We told you you'll be fine0
-
What tyres do you reckon would be best for stiniog? I chucked some Hans Dampfs on for Snowdon but might pack the Muddy Mary's if anyone thinks its worth it?0
-
-
Hmmm muddy marys are the freeride not DH version, but the front is a vertstar so it'll probably stick like shit to carpet!0
-
Think i'll be chucking the butcher dh's on, for both days.
If the hans are fine for snowdon, pretty sure they'll be fine for stiniog too.0 -
Think I'll just stick with the Hans Dampfs then! They're a big old tyre thats for sure :shock:0
-
-
Won't be much riding going on (uphill at least) as i only have room to bring one bike and seeing as we're doing stiniog the next day, i'll be bringing the session and mainly walking up the hill
Also acts as the perfect cover to disguise my complete lack of fitness for when i'm pushing.0 -
From my ridiculously large tyre collection  I think I'll go with a 2.35" Nevegal front and 2.35" Butcher SX rear for the Trance X to go up & down Snowdon. Both will be set-up ghetto tubeless to minimise pinch punctures (although I'll be bringing tubes and a sidewall repair kit in case the rocks get the better of the tyres).
The Butcher DHs will be staying on the Summum for Antur Stiniog, with DH tubes.0 -
Reckon we'll be aiming for twice up and down? If so I could maybe think of squeezing the enduro in.
Sat afternoon options seem to be:
Another bash at Snowdon
Ride penmachno (I certainly wont have the legs for that)
Go and play on the jump/pump track at stiniog for a fiver
Go the pub0 -

That sounds a bit wrong way round to me!
Still haven't decided what bikes to bring never mind what tyres Might actually have finished building my 224.Uncompromising extremist0 -

Wondered about that myself, was just going to take the easy option as the Nevegal's already fitted on a front wheel.
So you'd go the other way round?
I also have a brand new 2.5" folding Nevegal in Stick-E compound but wonder if that will be a bit too much tyre for the rear??0 -

Well I'm not going all the way over there to only ride in the morning!!
So it'll be either (A), (2) or what about Coed-y-Brenin (never been to there or Penmachno)?
I'd bring the Enduro if I was you, it'll mean that you can - at least - ride up some of Snowdon0 -
Brenin or Penmachno sounds good to me0

For folks who've done it before- how big a day out is Snowdon (we're talking Llanberis up, Ranger's/Telegraph down, aren't we?) I can ride all day but I hates me the pushing! I'd kinda assumed that'd be our day but it'd be good to squeeze in more if it's sensible.
I'll be nipping to CYB on the monday and probably doing the Beast, if anyone else fancies joining me that'd be cool. Depending on how I feel after that I might try and squeeze in Tarw as well but it doesn't seem very likely...Proutster wrote:So you'd go the other way round?

Will it fit? Big ol tyre that! Not sure how it'll compare to the Butcher though, haven't tried that exact model. Suppose it all depends what you want. SX Butcher is way tougher than a singleply Nevegal so from that point of view, good on back. But I reckon my SXs are grippier than my stick-e 2.35 Nev so, better on the front. Can't go too horribly wrong with either though.Uncompromising extremist0 -

Done penmachno (full loop) a few times, no prob on its own, but don't reckon i'll fancy snowdon and full loop which is what my mates will want to do.0 -
Did snowdon a few years ago, steady ride/walk up with a few food stops took under 2hrs, takes prob 1/2hr to come down steady.
I too don't want to do lots on saturday, hence why not doing machno, as I want to be able to pedal the hell out of stiniog all day sunday.
After doing rangers/telegraph last time which I felt was very overated, I'm pretty sure I'll be having a coffee at the top then coming back down the way we went up.
I have the same 2.5 stick e nevegals on the session atm, they were on the tues too, cant fault them, although they have really thin sidewalls which may not agree with the welsh stone/slate.0 -
I could possibly be tempted to do mbr at brenin, lovely trail.
Will see how feasible it is to bring both bikes.0 -

I'm feeling thoroughly nonplussed about the whole thing at the moment, since I seem to have caught a dose of manflu :?0 -
It'll clear in 2wks..
Ive got b4stard toothache which cripples me when I go out in the cold, and it wont be fixed till after the wales weekend. Think i'll be bringing a hip flask of whiskey0 -

YeehaaMcgee wrote:I know it will, but I just have a complete lack of enthusiasm at the moment.
I reckon that's because you've just got back from a snow holiday, like me. This non-descript UK weather simply doesn't compare to being in the mountains with beautiful scenery and blue-sky days. Not having to work whilst you're in the Alps helps make it slightly better too
Your mojo will come back young Padawan....0 -

That, along with laziness in already having the Nevegal on a front wheel, was also part of my thinking - tougher back tyre with the SX carcass. Although I do really like the feel of the Butchers on my DH bike, I'm used to the Nevegal on the front of the Trance. Never felt it didn't have enough grip, although that's probably a consequence of just mincing along...
The Nevegal's stood up to lots of rocks in the Peak District, so I think I'll stick with that on the front and the Butcher SX on the rear - whatever happens, I'm NOT buying anymore tyres.....(and definitely not your Butcher Control for sale on Pinkbike)0 -

Anyone looking for a place on the uplift?
Is it definate that you aint gona be able to make it?
Yes, we were planning to be in wallasey from the Saturday so I was going to sneak off from there for the uplift. Now we won't be down until the Monday. Not too worried about a refund but if its an option I'll take it. Either that or someone else could take my place.0
