More and more riders speaking out can only be a good thing. Does anyone forsee a time when the odd ones out are those not speaking out?

    Only sensible option for Nike.
One of the walls crumbles, Lance.

    Is that a haiku?
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

    @gietvangent
  • Also, this seems to change nothing other than damage limitation for Nike... they say they will continue with Livestrong, which is all the Armstrong product/advertising i've seen from them in the last 5 years or so.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Lance Armstrong said Wednesday he is stepping down as chairman of his Livestrong cancer-fighting charity so the group can focus on its mission instead of its founder's problems.

What would he gain from a confession?

    What difference would it make?

    Confession?

It's certainly moving in that direction. At the weekend the lawyer on 5 live had moved from "he didn't do it" to "who cares, we've moved on". Next some of the corporate stuff, Nike and Liestrong is tidied up. Could be the big apology. Move over Tiger Woods.

    Here's a translated version

I think the key message is this:
"This large swamp that comes to light is a few years old. Today we know that - but especially like - there are some scammers have managed and still manage to drive in cycling mischief. I find it appalling, especially, was deceived systematically to what extent and how. "

I really hope that more riders speak out so we can drive out this cycling mischief.

Why, what happened in Toulouse? What Tour was that?

i think we need to think about the bigger picture if he confessed.

    Where would it leave Dennis?

About the only thing i (grudgingly) respect about Armstrong is that he's an atheist...

Although, grudging respect for Nike after this -
Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him. Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs in any manner.

Nike plans to continue support of the Livestrong initiatives created to unite, inspire and empower people affected by cancer

That's the way to look at it, Support the the cancer charity, but condemn the drug cheat!
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

You mean the onion was right??

Oh and if he saiys he is no longer an atheist and it was Satan who made him take drugs, then the Unitedstatians will happily bend over and take another shafting from him.

He'd probably break his own omerta and tell us how he had a drink with Lance, found he was a lovely guy and pursuaded him to confess.

I reckon it was the allegation that Nike paid half a million to the UCI that tipped the scales... As soon as Nike's name was implicated in the actual bribery/doping - that was it. They had to pull the plug.

I think Oakley will now pull the plug even though they already stated they would stand by him. The horrible thing about Oakley is that Stephanie Whatshername was in the room and heard Lance admitting to doping... They were all as thick as thieves - literally...

As an atheist surely he cannot believe in miracles ...... Oh wait

"the people who don't believe in cycling, the cynics, the sceptics; [I feel] sorry for you. You need to believe in these riders. I'm sorry you can't dream big and I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles".

So in a way he never believed in these riders ? He was telling us all along - don't believe in miracles, don't believe in these riders. He's a wag.
