People cheat on all levels, from local races to the pro stuff. People want to win something in life, to be known as an athlete, and many will do whatever it takes and risk it all to simply win or place highly in even a local or regional contest. I realize this is pretty obvious stuff but it shows that cheating will go on and on and on no matter what.

When I was in my late teens I was a national runner - all I know is that the desire to win over-rides all other sensibilities. Basically if I had known someone else was doping and if they beat me I would have gone down the same road just to win and in my mind level the playing field. I know that does not make me look in a good light but when you are competing at a high level the desire to win becomes stratospheric. I would never have initiated the taking of drugs but if others around me had been then I would have looked for them.

    As it is was though
    a) drugs were not easily available
    b) others were not taking them to my knowledge

So I never went down that road. For this reason, although I am totally disgusted by this, to me the fault lies more with the governing bodies not controlling this and routing out the cheats at the start - I feel sorry for the cyclists who just did what everyone else did - and I cannot with my hand on my heart say I would have been any different in their place.

I wonder if the USADA gave LA a copy of the report and said "how do you like them apples..."

I feel sorry for the cyclists who just did what everyone else did

I don't believe there is anything or anyone to feel sorry for. Most people will do what the rest of the herd does. It's human nature and an ingrained survival instinct. We all have it. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Have just listened to an interview with Andy Sutcliffe, who was the editor of Cycling Weekly for quite awhile up until - oh, I forget, maybe up until Garbut's tenure there now - on R4's PM. He came across as very upfront and admitted complicity in keeping shtum about the ped's of the time during his editorship. A Mea Culpa like everyone else currently.

BTW: When Lance 'returned' for his last couple of TdF's, so sick was I of seeing his face on nearly every printed page I stopped buying any of the cycling mags, and am grateful to Lance for at least saving me a ton of money.

Yup, I stopped in about 2000, every month he was on PC, it made me vomit, the cheating stinking peasant made me ill. And that slimy little toe rag of a comedian who used to slip him a length on the Champs Elysee. And I still cant even look at a Trek bike, all of them should be thrown into the Ocean. Boycot the lot, ban the whole fucking lot of them forever and Millar and anyone else that has realised they better say sorry coz otherwise its real job time or a lonely life - Il Pirata style. And then the bastards have the cheek to say how much they love cycling, wankers, fuck off to all of them

    and relax.

    No....it was a joke.....

Sure, he's been off twitter but I would have liked to see him come out and make a statement a la Wiggo.

Listening to Wiggo though he says he only raced against Armstrong once, and that was in 2004 at Criterium International...has he forgotten about the 2009 tour?

Wiggins calls evidence "damning", "overwhelming". Says Armstrong deserves everything he gets and he has no sympathy for him.

    and gets roundly criticised.

I don't know why cyclists bother to speak.

He's probably too busy hoping that people won't start asking his golden boy if he saw anything during his year with USPS.

Unbelievable how big business will ignore morals if its good for their balance sheet. Woods, Vick and now Armstrong, quite a ménage a trois right there.

What utter BS. Isn't he an ex-Pro himself? He must have known exactly what was going on.
