Is that aimed at me or the article? Because I love taking strava too seriously
The article, you are fine
Just had the pop up offering a 1 month free Strava premium trial, is it worth it :?:0 -

You're asking whether something that's free is worth it?0 -
The only value in paying for the premium offer is to know the age of the other riders on "your" climb. It saves having to guess their age from their max heart rate. I can at least comfort myself knowing that no one older than me has beaten me on my favourite climb. Spring will see me returning to battle with a guy I've never met who is less than half my age, on a couple of local climbs. I know, very sad.0

Whent out for a cheeky segment hunt in the winds. Shaved a few seconds off one of my second places as a sort of warm up (only because I know I need alot more to go first). Then on the "main event" I forgot I had to cycle up the road a bit first for the start line. Smashed the 70km/h(43mph) barrier and none of it got counted!!!
Going to have to wait ages for another 25mph tailwind. Starting to look worth actually training more (well drinking less) and doing it properly.
Any of you guys got any Kom's in the winds or is it still too mardy up north?0 -

pah. Its more fun riding hard then going for a PR at the end of a ride against the wind

I was looking out the window thinking I could smash some of those hills while I sipped a lemsip and drifted in and out of my sweaty feverish sleep.
yes. beat the previous record by 3 seconds. admittedly it was only a 42 second uphill sprint. but its a good feeling!0 -
This is one I'm proud of. Its quite technical and is on a narrow lane. I did it at night so I could see if there were any cars heading my way. Great fun blasting along on the limit in the dark

Nice! Did you meet the QOM at some point? Even nicer!
Nice Venge too.
Here's a recent one I'm quite pleased with, although there was a slight tailwind....!

Congratulations!
My plan to get my top 10 place back off you on the Bolnhurst 'sprint to the line' is going out the window.. I have the '100 day cough' as its being called. Can't even ride let alone go for any times.0 -

Get better soon! I'm coming home in a few weeks to shave some more time off0 -
Love looking at the age related lists. Was a bit peeved the other day that a group of three old git's had come through east Cornwall and up the old A30 from Penzance doing a jogle in reverse and had managed to bag all my times... So got to wait for a favourable wind now and give it some welly. How jolly dare they?0

Lost a few KOM's this year already to people 'doubling' up to chase segments.
Does anyone know if you beat your own KOM you get the 'Oh-uh' email?0 -
I havent checked back on my KoM list for ages ..

as someone (not me) dropped a wheel coming o ut of Bangor and it fair knackrd me to pull hard to get back on the bunch0 -

Yesterday went out to PR on Stanton St John segment and nailed it nicely.
Then I was planning a turbo session with the club this evening but it was such a nice day I couldn't resist and went and PR'd on Stanton again today.0 -
This may be a really daft question given that the vast majority on here clearly love Strava, but is it better than MapmyRide? Or, to be more objective, has anyone used MmR and then changed to Strava; if so then why? More user friendly, better layout of data etc? I'm currently using MmR but am curious as to whether I'm missing anything genuinely better on Strava... any thoughts most welcome.0

Map my ride is good for mapping rides, very easy to use for this purpose and gives an estimate of the amount of climbing for a given route.
Strava is different because it has segments which can get quite competitive. There are various other websites, endomondo and others but strava wins because of the segments thing.
I bagged a couple today with a nice strong Easterly wind0 -
There's nothing worse than coming 2nd on Strava.... Sooo annoyed. Been trying for ages!0

As posted, the "segment" thing with overall leaderboards leads to a very competitive environment that some people like. I joined strava a few months ago and I have certainly seen my fitness and performance improve. Previously I would do a 50 mile loop and just try to beat my best time. Now I know the segments and this pushes me to put in maximum effort maybe 20 times on the loop. I can't get close to the KoM on anything but descents but it is very useful to see my improvement over time
One thing you will come to enjoy on strava is the pleasure of completing a hard segment and then knowing there are no more segments for a few miles. Just tootle along, enjoyng the scenery......like cycling used to be before strava came along :?0 -
Sure I would have had 2 today but first time in a year Strava failed me. I must have knocked the pause or stop button when I glanced at it after 10 miles just before setting off on main part of the ride. Didnt notice until right at the end when I tried to save and upload ride , all that hard work gone unnoticed
Probably more due to frozen hand syndrome that anything else , my left hand suffered today for some reason.0 -
I lose gradient if my garmin isn't recording. Not that I check that much....0

Depends who's first0 -
Did a 10 mile TT at the weekend and came second.
However the guy who came first isn't on Strava and so I claim the official KOM
Ker-ching0 -
Its been such a nice few days - got 9 hours in since Saturday.
Saturday - http://app.strava.com/activities/42786098
Monday - http://app.strava.com/activities/43104239
Tuesday (today) - http://app.strava.com/activities/43226850
and one of my club mates just 'bagged' a KOM on a 0.3 mile uphill segment in town that averages ~4%.. so might have to actually go and do some 'bagging' on Friday as despite him being tiny (and hence faster uphill) I reckon I can smash this one with brute force.0 -

Although I’m not a big fan of Strava I still upload the odd ride. The wind was strong on Saturday and I also had the assistance of a bin lorry. The driver could see me and kept up a good speed. It was a total ‘Breaking Away’ moment!
I had this one taken off me but I'm back ;-)

Joint 1st on this one :-(

someones done a great job in removing a the top 15 of a ride near me - every single on was a ToB rider 30+ mph  - so that means i'm in the top 10The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0
