Got the nod from a mate who works in the Police control room that strava has been hacked into. The hackers are then looking to see who is using it and burgling the empty home. Appears to be Cumbria at present, but may well be elsewhere too. The linking factor is strava, apparantly...0

There were a few threads on this posted a while ago, hence the privacy feature on Strava now and why I never start my GPS at home, but at least 300+yds away. I normally bimble for a mile or so before starting the course or recording.0 -

My HRM always reads quite high, although I think 248 is the max to date.
I am looking at getting the Garmin premium one, but not sure it's gonna help....
Oddly veloviewer gives me a few more KOMs (usually joint ones) than Strava.0 -
Testing the new Zipps and bagged a few

I see there is a fairly tight bend before the start, but nonetheless, can't you hit the bottom at 40kmh ish, and then just hold on above 30 till the top?0 -
In happy news, the doc has me on Antibiotics and I can breathe again, so getting 6th on this, made me happy: http://app.strava.com/segments/964486
In unhappy news, 1/ I've lost loads of fitness and base and 2/ Russel Hampton has started riding more round by me0 -

I actually came from the junction not the bend so didn't have much of a run up when I got the KOM and actually accelerated up the climb - but my previous time was pretty fast to be honest since I just found the right gear and got a nice cadence going.
Might be tricky to get it back but we'll see - Wednesday is looking likely because I've got two long/hard rides hanging heavy in my legs from Saturday and Sunday.0 -

here we go - missed out by 1 second so pretty gutted... had to skirt round a horse so that's my excuse. (With hindsight should have probably aborted the attempt and waited for the horse to leave!)0 -
Just wait for the right wind, keep cadence above 110, and you'll get it!0

KOMs aren't everything. I was happier with the 3rd place on one hill than the KOM on another:

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
missed out on a KOM (over a 19.2mile segment) by 26 seconds: http://app.strava.com/activities/48960130#861024967
seemed like really fast conditions this evening though despite the high winds, fun riding!0 -

Giving up smoking and buying a bike was by far the most sensible thing I've done in life so far0

If that change makes you happy and of course improves your Strava then heyyy it's a belter.0

Looks like a tough ride - are you sure about 95bpm for your KOM though.. looks a little suspect to me!0 -

No, the HR strap battery was dying throughout the ride. On the first attempt at that hill I was about 150ish I think which was correct - it was a checkit out attempt. On the 2nd one I would have been well into the 180's, I put it all on the table, there was no reserve!!
The 1st KOM (Koad Ninon) was 180 too which was correct.
I do have 2 witnesses!0 -
Just took 30 seconds off a 2 minute KOM, I feel like a bit of a cheat from the tailwind but it's also the first time I've done a proper effort up that hill and I was well out of breath by the top.

3 KoM's on one ride pleased with that and if anyone complains I guess could just tell them "It's windy tomorrow, goodluck".0 -

Pretty good speeds there. It gets pretty windy in the UK at least 20%* of the time, so everyone has a fair crack of the whip to make the most of it. It's a level playing field.
I don't think anyone goes for a best time INTO the wind!
Having said that I find I go particularly well with a tailwind, but I am crap into a headwind. So good for Strava then!
*(My non-scientific estimate!)0 -
talking about the wind... the met office is suggesting 40mph gusts in Oxford tomorrow... just a shame I won't be able to get out for a ride!
Otherwise a KOM-run on this would have been a nice little challenge http://app.strava.com/segments/992515 - perhaps I wouldn't have made it back into Oxford with the headwind on the way home though0 -
If it's straight out and straight back it would be ok. I wouldn't fancy my chances in a 40mph gusting crosswind though.0

Done it again!

No heart rate though, battery definitely dead.0 -
Managed to get one today that I regularly ride, been close for weeks, but seemed to get it together today:
